Re: Assistance needed getting armor finished.

You're gonna want to learn to strap armor anyway because you will need to replace straps. Those roofing nails are going to take a while to take out. Just wear the thing for now and fix stuff as it breaks. The rough from the hammer Churburg #13 breastplates are great they're properly shaped and will ...

Re: Anyone want more pictures of my collection?

Actually photographing your collection and putting it up on Lulu as a print book with photographs from an armourers perspective would probably make a lot of people really happy to give you money.

Re: Anyone want more pictures of my collection?

Hey Wade more pics of the black and white gauntlets would be nifty. Specifically the mitten ones but the other ones will be helpfull too. Also some detail pics of a rearbrace turning collar would be nifty. Angles would be anything you think I'm gonna need to know about when I build them which will b...

Black and white suit update.

Progress has been a bit slow lately but here's an update.

The cuisses need to be shortened by about an inch. The bottom edge of the demigreaves needs to be rolled and the bottom two lames of the tassets need to be repatterned and rebuilt but progressing nicely. Let me know what you think.

Re: Solid breastplate with back COP style?

Pretty simple really. Globose on the front and inside out coat of plates at the back. Haven't made a pattern but a duct tape pattern for the back plates would work great and be easy to make.

Re: Solid breastplate with back COP style?

AAOMK pg 82 bottom image shows a solid breastplate with multiple overlapping plates on the back. The plates are on the outside instead of the inside though but this is probably exactly the reference you're looking for. It's noted as late 14th century. There's also a fauld on the breastplate which is...

Re: Help me pimp my helve hammer.

Ok so I'm getting some 6" pipe to go under the anvil. Sounds like a tighter fit on the anvils where they insert into the base will help too. Will see if I can get a video up tonight.

Re: Help me pimp my helve hammer.

The power in the swing comes from velocity and weight not from motor power. But A heavier spring and a heavier hammer weight should help. Keep the ideas coming.

Help me pimp my helve hammer.

I'd like to see if I can get my helve hammer to hit harder. Much harder. There's pics in this album. m So far I'm thinking putting a heavy post under where the anvils sit that connects to the floor is going to go a long way. Will stop the table from bouncing and sucking up force from the blows. Also...

Re: Anyone used concrete for press forms?

Well my theory is for the concrete to support a thinner metal form in order to prevent the metal form from deforming. Went and looked some things up and looks like getting concrete to withstand 3000 psi is pretty easy. So in theory a 6" square form should be able to withstand 100,000 pounds. Gu...

Anyone used concrete for press forms?

I'm thinking that concrete might be an option for press forms. Dish out the bottom form from 14ga steel. Build a metal box around the bottom of it. Fill with concrete and weld a plate on the bottom. Not really sure what kind of pressure concrete can take but I think that surrounding it with a steel ...

Re: Upcomming stainless fingermittens available.

They're the two piece speed rivets. They're strong but slightly weaker than the leather. Which means if you blow a rivet you replace one rivet instead of replacing the leather and ALL the rivets. Basically engineered to put the failure in the place that's easiest to fix.

I don't remember where I got my foot pedal but it's not a variable one. You can use a router speed control though to adjust. Vice grips to hold your piece make it easier on the hands and less terrifying. I'd say if it's working though don't fix it till it breaks. I really want a tire hammer. With a ...

I would go with a 50 on the jack. More money but it will do more and last longer. Mine gets a workout. I killed a 20 hand one then a 30 air one and the 50 is still doing well.
