Looks pretty good. Can you adjust the speed much or is it pretty much an on or off type thing?

Re: Black and white suit progress pics gorget finished.

Pitbull The gorget was shaped cold. It has some issues with the shape but it looks pretty snazzy.

AvM this one is going to be for sale once the spring stainless one that this is a learning project for is done. Or I'll have another comission open once it's done.

I estimate that you will need two of them.

If you're counting the arms and shoulders and not the gauntlets you shouldn't have a problem within $500.

Re: Black and white suit progress pics gorget finished.

Things look basically the same with the gorget and munions but it works now. Haven't updated those pics. I have put up pics of the backplate though for those who want to see. Adjusting everything so the gorget and breast and back all fit together properly was "fun". On to the culet next al...

Re: Leather for COP

Go with what everyone else said. There's a section in the coat of plates instruction sets I have for sale on choosing leather but here's the gist of it. You want a medium temper, 5-7 oz is good but it's the strength and temper that matter. Cut a small slit 1/4" from the edge of the leather big ...

Wade sent me a sneak peek because he thought it was only fair I get to point out all the spots he went wrong after he has done so for me. Which I really appreciate. Unfortunately I've never even seen one before so I couldn't comment. It's really really really cool though.

Re: High Schooler seeks formal training/ Apprenticeship

Find someone local who makes armor who will help you out a bit. Get one of your parents to go. No formal arrangement. Work on stuff at home. Start with something simple and take the time to do a good job of it. Find your local SCA group and start going. There will be some people there who know some ...

Re: Black and white suit progress pics gorget finished.

Updated pics are up with munions on. It has to be taken apart and reworked though. The gorget lifts up when I raise my arms too much because of the munions and the bottom front of the gorget sits too far in. The munions can use a little more free movement the bottom corners need to get flared out sl...

Added pics of the munions. They're waiting for the paint to dry so they can be assembled. They went pretty quick so this is the only in progress pic there's gonna be for them.

New pics of the finished gorget are up. Definitely room for improvement but will fix that stuff on the real one since this is just a prototype. This was definitely a learning experience. Anyway would love to hear some comments. Paint will be touched up after I get the shoulders finished and attached.

Re: Black and white suit progress pics gorget.

Couple new progress pics are up. Still needs to get a hinge on the top plate on one side, spring pin on the other. Hinge rivet location on the shoulder needs to move and have to make a keyhole for the other side. Polish paint and assemble. The plates do actually line up properly when it's on the lea...

Black and white suit progress pics gorget finished.

Ok so got the two main plates of the gorget shaped today. Would love to get some constructive criticism. I'm thinking I need to trim a little more off the back. It's sitting on the table tipped backwards a bit since that's just how it sat on the vicegrips. Pats on the back are always welcome too m

Making a set of stainless type B spaulders for someone today. I've got 4 sets of cops left so I'm gonna make all 4 which leaves 3 sets available. Same as on my site first come first served. If you want a polished finish you need to speak up fast or they'll all be satin.

Re: Looking for lightwieght 14th C. stainless finger gauntle

I started doing spring stainless now. The black and white suit I'm doing will be spring stainless. I'll have a better idea on price and things like flex when I'm finished it. Popular opinion says 22ga works out about the same as 14 for durability. Not sure yet on price since I have to be finished wo...

Re: Looking for lightwieght 14th C. stainless finger gauntle

I can do them in 22ga spring stainless but they'd cost more than my normal ones. But they'd be pretty light. either fingermittens or finger gaunts. I can do other wisby types as well. Won't be able to do it till likely middle of november though. But no money till they're done.

Re: Anyone have a source for 410 stainless mig wire?

Mcmaster carr has a 1 pound coil but coils end up tangling so I'd have to wind the whole thing carefully onto an empty spool. Plus it's .032 which is kinda wacky. It's not welding wire but wire is wire.

Re: Anyone have a source for 410 stainless mig wire?

All Grainger have is 308 I need 410. Thanks anyway though. I didn't see it last time I was at princess auto but I'll check again today.

Wade it would be fun to raise from one piece. the codpiece might be fun to do that way too but the budget just isn't there for this suit.
