Re: dissimilar metals and heat-treatment
m Since the 1050 is more prone to corrosion than stainless attaching stainless to it will make the 1050 much less rust resistant. I also vote for painting the 1050 perf plate. Using stainless will result in more rust overall. When putting any dissimalar metals together the metal that falls lower on ...

The basic info is you can't harden mild steel. You need a higher carbon content.

Stick the end between any two objects which don't move and are close together and twist. You're twice as strong that way. If you have it at about waist level instead of up high you're even stronger because you can push with your hips if you need to.

I could be wrong here. But from your drawings to the pics of where you're at it looks like the thumb needs to come out a bit when looking directly at the back of the hand. It also looks like the portion at the finger end of things where stuff turns downward is a little long. the metacarpal seems a l...

Realized I shouldn't have posted this about the cuisses in classifieds so sticking it in here after deleting it from there. even though they're not in this thread. So this is hints about the upper legs. Those look really nice. I'd run the cuisse a little further into the knee. Also the rivets in the...

Re: Do I have sexy calves? (First try at splinted greaves)
The front view it looks like the calf bulge seems high. Possibly want a little more curve in the next to center ones. A sweep out at the bottom front would be sexy. If you went with two splints instead of a center crease or made the center splint narrow like the others it'd be easier to get that swe...

the top and bottom parts of the cops should be at 90 degrees from each other to make them work well. As wade said there's stuff that's different but this is pretty much the standard angle you want to shoot for.

Re: What's the easiest way to get in to fluting?
Those aren't exactly flutes. they're not creases either. They're quite a bit taller then flutes as we think of them. Chisel from behind might not be the way to go. You might be better hammering them into a crease from the inside with something like the pointy end of a brick hammer. In a knee they'd ...

Re: Stainless sexy legs tried welded knees this time.
For stainless it's worth it for sure. If it was dished I'd spend more time dishing. Then planish then flute the center crease, then turn the flute into a crease then replanish the area around the crease, then sand and polish. Welded is dish a little planish weld, grind the weld (80 grit flap disks t...

Re: Kettlebell=Ballstake?
You can weld cast with a mig. You need to preheat it. Best way to weld onto a stake is to drill a hole in it and shove a metal rod into the hole 1/2" thick will do but 1" is better then weld the rod to the ball on the outside part. the ball needs to be hot around the area of the weld. You ...

go to your local hardware store/home depot etc. They'll have 1"x1/8" aluminum strips. You can use those. Aluminum cuts really easily so drilling holes and cutting to length with snips will be a snap.

Hey you want the top and bottom of the elbow to be at a 90 degree angle to each other. Which you're not quite there. This will help with articulation too.

Starting your flare with a crisp edge will minimize this. It's gonna happen though. But you can re-bend after you flare.

It looks very long. Bottom should be at about your navel. If it's longer then that you're not going to bend at the waist properly and any time you do it'll push the breastplate up to jab into your neck.
