Re: Blued hourglass finger gauntlets.
Here's a construction tip to go with the pics. Shape the knuckle gadlings into a small depression in a dishing stump. Set the piece of metal on the stump. Left hand has a ball peen hammer right hand has a 4 pound sledge. Ball of the ball peen on the metal and whack it with the sledge. Will keep the ...

Re: Blued hourglass finger gauntlets.
I'm waiting for an excuse to raise a set just need someone to order a raised pair in 1050. Those ones are welded. The cuff and metacarpal get a rounded flare on them before they're welded together. It's gun blueing solution. I've explained the process a bunch of times on here if you search it you'll...

Blued hourglass finger gauntlets.
Yet another thumb design but I think these turned out really nice. Mild steel blued 16ga body 18ga fingers and thumbs. The palm strap isn't a palm strap there's two straps where the palm strap should be one on either side and then they rivet onto the back of the glove. Seems to work really well and ...

Re: Cost for non-armor welding?
A welding shop will charge you $60-100/hour depending on the shop. If you did all the prep work and are doing all of the after work this is a 5-10 minute job. That said most welding shops will charge a full hour. $20 would be plenty. Or bring him in some beer. Standard fee for small welding jobs for...

Unfortunately either I didn't take pics of them or I can't find the pics. They look basically the same as my regular finger gaunts though they just wrap further arounnd the finger.

What's the size on the ball? I'd be interested in just the tooling. My press is already pushing 100 and texas is kinda far to drive.
Pending the size of the ball and shipping not being completely retarded I'll take the tooling.

Possibility of a new instruction set.
Ok so people seem to really like the coat of plates instruction set I'm selling here http://forums.armourarchive.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=127764 But it hasn't sold enough to make another one worthwhile. Needs to be 25 more copies. So if you want more promote it. Anyway once it hits 25 more...

Usually the greaves go overtop. I hate the boring greaves but that's what you wanted. I left the cuff for you to trim since it was close already and you'd get to trim it where you wanted. I should have thought to make the greaves fit overtop of the sabatons Duh! You can just pull the ends out a bit ...

Re: Of teeny women and brigandines...
I think the thing people are missing here is that the fact that you're small means armour that fits you will not be that heavy.
There are several brigandines in the wisby find so they definitely qualify for 14th century.

Nice job. If you'd curved the part of the lames that's near the edges a bit more they'd fit into the cops better. BTW you can curve all 3 lames at once since they're the same shape. Stack em up and smack em with a hammer and they automatically nest perfectly.

You don't sooner or later have all the hammers. You never have enough ever. The 75 I have is still very few. I tend to use heavy hammers. But then I'm a lopsided hammer wielding monster. I always liked Sasha's expression though. "Most armouring is done with cake decorating hammers." You ne...

The leading cause for chips in the blade is letting other people use it.
The replaced gear housing is because I probably dropped it on the concrete floor too many times.

Re: Oxy/Acetylene Hose Diameter
The big problem with torches and stainless is you can't weld or cut it with a torch. SS disperses heat too much.
It's leaving stainless at a high temp for a long period of time that will make it more likely to rust. Luckily we're using thin stuff so it cools quickly once the heat source is removed.

Re: Constructive criticism for a newbie
It's not about being better at welding that spot on gauntlets needs to flatten out a bit. BTW you want to do the flare either over the edge of something round like a piece of 1" round stock. Or you can do it on the horn of an anvil or a pipe from the outside with the pointy end of a crosspeen w...

Re: Constructive criticism for a newbie
Knuckles are pretty good. If you go too deep on them they'll dig into the backs of your fingers when you straighten your hand. Use cads pattern and you'll get the cuff right. When you're starting out the pattern section of the armour archive has all the basics in there and once you learn how to look...

They're great. There's a bit of a learning curve. Keep the workbench on your left. Better then a beverly IMO but I'd like to have both if I had the money. It will outlive you. I've had to replace the gear housing on mine, replaced the yoke once and replaced the blades twice. Probably cut 300-400 she...

Re: Constructive criticism for a newbie
The cuff is really long for an hourglass gauntlet. Should be about 2/3 the length it is max. the cuff is also pretty narrow. Hourglass gauntlets have to flare out quite a bit to allow proper wrist movement. The thumb needs to come out. If you're looking at the metacarpal from the back of the hand th...
