Re: talbot patterns

I think losthelm was saying he buys patterns and gives them away and not that he buys patterns and gives away copies. Ie. he gives away the purchased pattern. When they're on sale he buys a bunch and gives them away.

Are they like these? Minus the enclosed thumbtip?

If so hope having the pic in the thread helps you sell them.

BTW I'm charging $50 more then the prices on my site on these now so this is a steal.

paypal goes to thepurplesock@vianet.ca as it says above.

Yes it includes a section on how to select leather. And it comes with tech support on top of everything that's in it.

Re: Galvanized sheet metal?

. . . wouldn't it be better to totally avoid galvanized sheets for armouring? I mean, why risk it? None of us know where our armour will go after the sale, so imagine a customer (who forgot your warning) decides a year later to use heat on his (your) armour to do some fancy artwork or who knows what...

Thomas I think you're probably the best tool scrounger on this whole board.

And if anyone has an issue with a power tool making a bit of noise how the hell do you deal with the sound hammering makes?

Re: Galvanized sheet metal?

I think the general point is don't breathe welding fumes or any metal vapors. Or smoke from the forge etc. All that shit will kill you. But galvanized metal won't hunt you down and all your relatives and kill you if you take a glance at it on a warm day. A stick welder puts out really really toxic f...

Re: Galvanized sheet metal?

If it's 16ga you'd need to do coat of plates with really big plates like #7 or it'll be too heavy. Actually a split covered globose with fauld is also perfect.

Re: Galvanized sheet metal?

18ga galvanized is perfect for coat of plates. Thicker stuff is perfect for interior splints. It's better not to practice making armour just do it. It's not as super toxic as the myth says. Proper ventilation and you're fine. Without proper ventilation inhaling the fumes will give you flu like sympt...

Re: Shear Alternative...

Oops Just checked it's rated for 10ga. which means it will still cut 12ga stainless.

Quick search came up with $340 as the best price I could find.

The bosch ones are more expensive. They do have one rated for 8ga though but it's $1,100

Also the makita shear is available in europe.

Re: Shear Alternative...

I think bosch made or makes one of this type as well. There are also some cheapo knockoffs. Princess auto has one that's rated for 14ga mild that goes on sale for $90 which I've heard good things about. I'll give you the negatives as well. This shear does have a learning curve. It also does take eff...

Re: Shear Alternative...

You can find the makita js3200 for around $350 if you look around. I'd take it over a beverly any day. It makes more noise but it also cuts tighter curves and is way easier to maneuver then a 4x8 sheet of steel. And it will last forever. It would be nice to have a beverly as well for smaller pieces ...

New trend in armourers crashing.

Looks like there's a new trend starting. Several times now armourers have become swamped or can't run their business anymore lately and are coming through with everything in the end instead of just disapearing.

I like it.

Heavy welding glove on your left hand. And pitbulls hammer in the hand idea works too although I don't bother.

There's less spring back on something that's been dished. But it's hard stuff to shape.

I use them because they go in fast and because in a lot of places it's much easier to replace a rivet then to replace all the rivets and the leather. By that I mean I've built in a focus for failure that is easier to replace. There are two straps on the inside of the finger lames. 9 lames is 18 rive...

Premade metal parts? That's not a bad deal. You can use canvas but it will wear out faster. You can also put a decorative brocade or something on the outside of the canvas. Leather will last longer. You want something that's about 1/8" thick and not stiff. It also needs to be strong. Which is w...

Anyone want to retail my coat of plates instruction set?

So this instruction set hasn't sold enough yet for me to be willing to make more. So thought I'd see if anyone wants to retail it. Here's what I propose. You can sell it through your site or in print or whatever. I want $5 per copy you sell. You can mark it up whatever you like. Obviously since this...

Different color nasal is what I was gonna suggest.

I think a redder color brass or bronze would suit the helmet better.

But it looks really nice the way it is too.
