Agreed. This is the most common error I see, whether throwing it as a snap or a wrap. Leaning for it does two wrong things: makes it go low and tells your opponent what you're doing.

Re: Trouble Counter Balancing

As many times I have tried, I am finding it fairly impossible to get the balance point on my swords to just above my hilt. What methods do you guys use to achieve this? do you even bother? I am looking for a practical idea to counterbalance my swords that doesnt require me attaching a bunch of wash...

I'll be at Aethelmarc War Practice for the first time next week. It'll be a new experience to be there and it not be Pennsic  The last time I was there for a Thursday to Sunday event was in the 80's.

On the other side, there is almost no such thing as 'a little flat'. If your edge hits a little bit (like 10-15 degrees) off from true, it will have a tendency to roll the rest of the way to completely flat. Blade orientation is a LOT more important.

You may well find even less difference in weight & balance after you hilt it. But you will need to pay attention to your blow force, since there is less flex in the rattan, a little more force is imparted to your opponent.

Seconding a thought nested in Count Johnathon's post: Just about every fighter I know can clearly remember the first tournament bout they won. Whether it was last week or 30 years ago.

It is a landmark worthy of remembering and celebrating.

Did that once, long before half-swording was experimentally allowed. I was practicing bastard sword with another guy. In one of those odd, stuff-happens sequences, my left hand got knocked off my hilt, and seemed to move of it's own volition out to meet his follow-up blow at my head. Took it flat ac...

Master Eirik Update (w/ upcoming events)

One - I'm headed up to Baron Wars this weekend. Look forward to seeing a bunch of you there. Two - I've got the 160 psi siloflex back in, but the cost has more than doubled. Empty pipe (42") has to go $10 each. I about broke my jaw on the floor when I got the invoice. Which takes the price of p...

In the early 80's the Mid had Brother Luvaducky who, among other things, sold indulgences as well. All in good fun. I believe he was from Calontir, while it was still a Principality. Don't remember seeing him much after the late 80s.

Not so much a packing oops, but a walking out onto the field oops. Last Estrella on Saturday I went out onto the field and fought the first field battle without realizing I wasn't wearing my gorget. Pieter was well aware of the limitations of his experiment. He wanted it to be a starting place to do more research. One of the more interesting side notes out of it was that, with fairly large data set, he did not get a classic bell curve. Fighters were very evenly distributed within the general 'a...

Plastic prices have gone up too, as a consequence of the cost of petroleum for both the raw material and energy. I haven't priced the yellow pipe (as opposed to black siloflex), but my cost on siloflex doubled since last year.
