Besides, a little shaping of the tip and you can make it rounded or even a bit pointed before you put a layer of 3/4 foam on it and suddenly it looks a whole lot more like a sword.

It's as much a matter of timing shipments of the 2" rattan and getting them to the guy who's cutting them for me. For a major event like AWP, I'm gonna try to be fully stocked. But things happen, so I rarely give an absolute 'yes'. That's just me, though.

The main thing is to taper down to your actual grip. Don't do a 90 degree shoulder cut to reduce down to yoru grip size, this causes a major weakness and it will be a LOT more likely to break there. I don't think it would be technically illegal or anything. But it would look like crap, imo. Nor do our helms deteriorate much if properly made.
