These start from the 50-55 mm diameter rattan and are planed to just over 1.25" wide, leaving the skin on the edges. There are pics further up in the thread.

Yep. And the tip as well. Comes nder the heading of "Don't break your toys"

Besides, a little shaping of the tip and you can make it rounded or even a bit pointed before you put a layer of 3/4 foam on it and suddenly it looks a whole lot more like a sword.

It's as much a matter of timing shipments of the 2" rattan and getting them to the guy who's cutting them for me. For a major event like AWP, I'm gonna try to be fully stocked. But things happen, so I rarely give an absolute 'yes'. That's just me, though.

The main thing is to taper down to your actual grip. Don't do a 90 degree shoulder cut to reduce down to yoru grip size, this causes a major weakness and it will be a LOT more likely to break there. So taper it down starting an inch and a half or so above where the top of your hilt will be. Other th...

Never having used one of these before, what is the advantage of the flat sided rattan sword? There are two aspects of difference. One is aesthetic: You can make a more 'sword-looking' sword. There is an edge, not just a tape mark. So you can make 'prettier' swords. Also, they are stiffer along the ...

I'll also have 24, 30, 48, 60 and 72 inch lengths available... I know I would be interested, but I would have to buy a 48" and throw away 10" to build a sword (my end-to-end blanks are consistently 38" long). You'ld pick up a bigger area under the "curve" if you offered a 3...

Then you could make the blanks into a diamond profile - which would produce a cool sword-like profile.

In development. Not with the distal taper like Edric's work, but leaving the skin along the edges.

There is also a flaw in our system. It is HAMMERED into most fighters (around here anyway) that the Chirurgeons can ONLY give first aid level help. For liability reasons, we're told. So, why bother them if you know you've strained a knee, broke an arm, or done something else that all they can do is ...

I like the leather idea, looks cool and it seems like it might work. Did you notice any difference from a normal helmet? like ring or denting differences? I don't think it would be technically illegal or anything. But it would look like crap, imo. Nor do our helms deteriorate much if properly made. But, you can cover the helm in leather, like I did (although I did it for aesthetic reasons) http://i673.photobucket.com/albums/vv92/mastereirik/FRF09/SDC1...
