I still love Gothic armor. i just don't want to fight in it, I'm too lazy. :D

I just rarely see a love for history be the thing that brings people into SCA or reenacting (there are exceptions, of course). But I do see learning to enjoy history be one of the things that keep them. YMMV 8)

Would it be legal to cover the striking edges of a shaved sword with silo-flex? Taking the silo-flex tube and cutting it in half, giving you a C and then taping that on the striking surface? I would ask that of your KEM. It seems to me that it would be a matter of interpretation. Most kingdoms allo...

meh. if a shot hits me with sufficiant force, I'll take it. if it doesn't, i won't. Not too complicated. if I hit someone and they don't take it I have to hit them harder, where there is no armor, or both. Also not compicated. There have been several times (twice in one tourney I won)I hit someone ...

Aesthetics and ease of construction come to mind. And it's not so much a change of calibration (force of the impact) as much as less effort to achieve that force.

A long time ago, yeah, we let that happen here. It's taken work and commitment to do better. For our local Ren Faire, we actually do a pretty good living history level presentation, involving 40-50 participants. And, yes, there have been some who grumble about excluding members who don't want to do ...

This isn't a peeve about a re-un-accuracy, per se, but a peeve about the SCA. The SCA should not be doing educational demos. The SCA should be doing recruitment-only demos. And in that case, if John Q Public isn't into silly games, we've not misinformed him about history, just told him about the SC...

The vast majority of SCA combatants, Armored and Rapier, are doing it as a hobby, not to be seriously competitive at a sport. From my perspective, we, as a group, are in no better or worse shape than the average softball league. One main difference, though, between us and most hobby leagues, is that...
