rule # 6 according to the rules of the list. The application of wich has been described as intending to injur others. I don't think the details of the application of the rule is descriptive enough or fully detailed but the part that is described seems to cover this particular discussion about using...

All in all I am not trying to call anyone here a cheater. The written rule does seem to lack some definition and leaves it open to interpretation. What I do know is that wedges were banned long ago because of the reasons that have been discussed - More force generated and harder hits. But are speci...

Knowing that and still using it seems to me a violation of rule # 6 according to the rules of the list. What are you calling rule #6? m VII.A.6. The striking surfaces of all weapons, including the tip, shall be wrapped in a manner that allows no rattan splinters to protrude. VII.B.6. 6. Swords shal...

And I'm saying that if I were using the full, round, 2.25 inch dia. piece of rattan, it would be just as (in)flexible as after I've shaved it to shape. And I'd have to back off on the force at least as much as I do for the finished product. The shaving has not changed the flexibility. Thick rattan i...

Trying to be clear here. I can't bend a 39 inch long, 2.25 inch dia. piece of rattan over my knee either. Before OR after I remove about half the mass, by shaping the sword. I have done NOTHING to affect the rattan flexibility. Thick rattan just ain't as flexible as minimum rattan. My sword is over ...

Shaped rattan weapons (pic heavy)
(Putting this here to not hijack Leo's excellent thread) I believe that if you compare a shaped rattan sword of, say, 2" blade depth against a 2" diameter unshaped stick you won't find any difference in stiffness. But if you compare that shaped 2" stick against a round stick of matchi...

And, what most guys don't realize, is a shaped rattan sword doesn't really weigh significantly more than a round one. Especially if you do the diamond cross-section shape. To look at one, guys expect it to weigh a ton, but it doesn't. I should probably weigh mine, just to have the info. And they DO ...

I notice I get crankier if I go more'n a couple weeks without fighting at practice. And, 2 weeks in a row of not even going because I was sick had me feeling like something was missing. You've asked for a very specific picture. So far, of 130+ people looking at the question, I'd guess that none them have such a picture.
You might email Master Jamie at josephnjody@sbcglobal.net, he might have a picture available. I believe he is getting some help on a new website currently.

The fighting has been amazing each year. The audiences are great. This year Sir Crispin is organizing the fighters as a 100 Years War army camp waiting to get paid. Gaming, with no money and other 'idle camp' things. We're also going to try to teach audience militia volunteers some basic pike drill.

Thank you all, again, for the good words. Sorry to say, the $11 price was almost certainly a one-time only deal, but it, and the big sizes of rattan, let everyone know I was out on my own now, which was the plan. I swear, you guys carrying the 45-55mm and 55-65mm back to your camps were the best adv...

PVC and 'siloflex' are two entirely different plastics. 'Siloflex' is the brand-name of one company's polyethylene pipe (sold only thru Lowes). The exact same spec pipe is sold in other stores from other companies and with different names. PE-3408 ASTM 2239 pipe does not shatter like SCH 40 PVC does...

To all of you who stopped by and shopped and made my first 'full' Pennsic in my own shop a success! For those of you keeping track : - Over 550 rattan poles were sold at the $11 each price. - over 50 of the Oversized 45mm-55mm poles sold. - All 40 of the 'Even Bigger' 55mm-65mm poles were sold. In s...

As a kid I watched Tennis occasionally. In the latter part of his career, Bjorn Borg rarely showed much emotion on the court and almost never questioned a judges call. Connors, and then McEnroe were infamous for their histrionics and theatric rants about calls. I recall a Wimbelton match where Borg ...
