96 people looked at this and no takers. I guess I have my answer. I need to find another forum for this particular topic. Your Grace, This is not a venture to be lightly undertaken. Perhaps a few are thinking about it yet, to see if they have the time and finances to commit, as well as the desire. ...

Re: Horses at Pennsic
And they are worried about a few dozen horses? LOL My impression is they are more worried about the hundreds of 'special snowflakes' that attend Pennsic and that allowing their active stupidity to mix with 1000-1500 lbs of horse will cause more problems than they want to have to deal with. Do you r...

At a guess, trying to swing the pendulum toward more medieval activities. A worthy goal, but I doubt that equestrian activities are possible with the current situation.

At this point, I would say it is highly unlikely. There were several bad experiences with horses at pennsic in the 80's and, as I understand it, the Coopers won't even discuss it.

Re: Ignorant shaped rattan question
1. What diameter should I start with for a simple 36-40 inch one handed sword? I'd say at least 1.5". For a simple flat-sided, that gives you an 1/8" you can removed on each side. Take is slow, it's easy to shave too much off. 2. If I just plane it full length down both sides, will it be weaker tha...

I'm using a type 10 currently for weekly practice. The type 15 (short) lasted about 9 months, and just needs new leather edging to probably get another 5-6 months. 'Normal' round sticks generally last me a year to year & a half.

They are switching to using a 1"(or less) rattan core instead of a PVC pipe core. The padding specs are otherwise unchanged. And this is being adopted at the Society level.

The one above is the the first and only one we've made so far. I'll get with Dyderich shortly and get a few more started. We've decided that he needs to come over and pick the sticks out that will work best rather than me trying to guess.

Shaped Rattan Polearms - Now in Stock
Dyderich, who does the planing for my flat-sided sword & polearm blanks, independently decided to try something I'd thought about as well... He took a 6' flat-sided pole and cut the haft down to 1.5" by 1.25, leaving a 2" wide glaive head. A little sanding and rounding of corners and, voila', One so...

I am seriously considering skipping MK Crown. The merchants are outside, the event inside. That situation has never been good for sales. ever. not once.

I wear titanium mail from Master Knuut, over a tunic and a light kidney belt. I find it to be good armor for me. The kidney belt has just a tshirt under it. Before I had the mail, I had a light gambeson under the belt, but the mail added enough protection that I couldn't feel body shots adequately. ...

Sorry, I meant, "Use any sticks you have which do not at any point along their length decrease in fatness to below 1.5 inches in diameter". Really, I just want 1.5" sticks. The lathed 1.25" I got from you handles great, but it flexes just a little too much to get reliable blow acknowledgment in tou...
