The arm armor section spells out that a shield is NOT sufficient regardless of design. (i.e. strapped heater vs center-grip) ... to cover the elbow points, yes. Basically, elbow cops must be worn under shields. Padding under a gorget is also new, it was suggested but not required in the 2000 versio...

16 ga helmet =concussion Well, in a sense the thickness was increased. It is now "0.0625" inches rather than "16 gauge" - that is only the nominal thickness for 16 gauge and a lot of sections are thinner. So if you want to be sure of that thickness throughout, you might want to use a thicker gauge....

The rules went up a couple of hours ago. As Society Rules, they are in effect now.

Wait for word from your Kingdom Earl Marshal to tell you when they will effect you locally.

Cool, all my favourite people are replying! Awesome- thanks for all the data. Does this exhibit have a catalogue? As it is a new permanent exhibit, I don't think it has its own catalogue, sorry. Now I see that Flickr has a turn function. I will turn them all when I get a round tuit. Anyone got one?

I can get all that on my next visit. Than Angst Altar is called that in German (Angst-Altar). A better English translation might be Altar of Fear. It is a Gethsemane/whipping/resurrection triptych where the first two pictures were originally one piece. The name comes from the vivid depiction of Chri...

Dear all, I hope you might find some of these useful. Thes are simply things that caught my eye. Some personal highlights: - early (1400 AD) clamshells - late (1470 AD) bascinet - nice statuary of 1365 rig with beaded strapping detail - ninth century silk - lots of tableware and boxes - and a pictur...

These sound fun.

Would a normal heater shape be appropriate for a 1370s/1380s portrayal? How big would it be?

Is it possible to make these of a reasonable weight using medieval materials? I have tendonitis in my elbows and have to be careful with weight, but dislike aluminium shields...

H. Leg Armor 1. The kneecap, an inch above and below, and both sides of the knee joints must be covered by rigid material, lined by at least ¼ inch (6mm) of closed-cell foam or an equivalent padding. There is absolutley no need to wear knee pads. Not even in the SCA. However, knee padding is a very fine idea, especially in the SCA where it is compulsory. As the inestimable posters above know well, blanket windings or padded chausses are an excellent alternative to anachronsitic sports equipment....

Fitting gloves to gauntlets is a major embuggerance, and I'd appreciate a gauntlet design that made it easier (predrilled sewing holes for instance).

I used to fight outside the SCA using SCA rules and kit but with untaped rattan. We never had any problems and the modern public accepted it well. I like the ability to 'roll' my fingers on a hilt which is in-plane motion but still don't want them shifted out of plane Sean understood me.
