I am trying unusually hard to get to Pennsic next year.

If I make it, and this takes off, I place myself at your disposal to assist in any way I can.

Without knowing what the marshals were discussing (it could have been something important), it's hard to have an opinion on their actions. It would certainly be acceptable for you to approach them and ask "can we get some marshals over here please?". In fact, I suspect they would be grateful for the...

Well, the birds are supposed to be ascending but moving away from each other.

I do not mind how they are drawn - I copied those ones from a C14 manuscript illustration because I liked the style.

Thanks for the comments!

(SCA) Blazon please...

Can anyone help?

This was drawn by a very helpful friend. The tails of the birds are supposed to be tangled together or intertwined.

The zig-zag at the bottom is optional. It was added by mistake, but I like it.

Would it pass, do you think?

Thanks!

Tim, I agree with Ceddie - you were fine. That gives you two Earl Marshals on your side. Although you were in the right, I have a couple of ideas which might make such situations clearer in future. First, you might think about holding your crossbow in another position - if it can be done safely. I h...

As Alcyoneus writes above, the SCA rules clearly and specifically define what constitutes "rigid" material. They also define the "heavy leather" mentioned in his quote: Heavy Leather: Stiff oak-tanned leather at least 1/ 8 inch (3.2 mm) thick. Often referred to as belt leather or 11 oz. leather. Tha...

Asmodei, can you explain a little more about the tournament? What format, equipment and rules will you use? How will the winner be decided? Is it a tournament where everyone pays an entry fee, and the winner takes the money at the end? It sounds very different from the tournaments we normally see, a...

Recently, I have had success using a core made of those cork blocks that you wrap sandpaper around. Works well.

Blackbow, Nice idea, but it still won't work for a sword much longer than your arm. You will be unable to get the tip out of the ring without moving your grip down the sword and onto the blade. One of my fave bits in Braveheart is when he charges toward the baddies drawing his sword. He gets it half...

Logic dictates that you will never be able to simply "draw" a sword worn on your back if it is longer than your arm. That is why (AFAIK) it was never done in period. Longer swords seem to have been simply carried on the shoulder like a spear. It might be possible to have some kind of "twist and clic...

First easy thing you can do is hang your legs from a seperate belt, not the one that keeps your pants up. The topline of your pants is probably lower than your armour belt will want to be. Make sure the thigh and calf straps are snug, but not too tight. If they are too tight, they will tend to move ...

WTB plaques for belt with seven virtues

Dear all,

A friend is looking to buy plaques for a plaque belt with the seven virtues cast/inscribed on them. They would be in silver or perhaps brass, and suitable for late C14.

Only the plates are needed, not the belt itself.

Does any one know any sources?

Cheers
