Welcome to the cote-side, young jedi. There is a fair bit of German information out there, but it is often in the books buried amongst the other stuff. In most general sources, you get a bunch of stuff on France and England, a bit on Italy, a bit on Germany, and a tiny bit on Iberia. Medieval Miltar...

Make a belt frog that will keep the weapons grip at a convenient hight. Go to an auto supply shop, and pick up a small section of 1 1/2 inch heater hose. Cut about a four inch long section, and split it lenghwise. I have seen that done, and it seems to work well. Nonetheless, even with the cloth an...

Again, it's hard to tell from the pictures, but the way your mail hangs looks like there might be no padded clothing under it. Having that "mail over padding"' silhouette is always critical for me.

Personally, I'd go Byzantine. As well as being medieval (which Roman is not), I think there are just too few Byzantines in the SCA. I use a "seax" with my C7 rig, and a mace with my C14 rig. Most of the kills I get are strikes to the face, which seems odd with a poinard. I have never been able to get a backup out of my belt in less than a few seconds, and personally find the wrist-hanging option rather cheesy. Thus, I have the g...

Count Gerhard of Drachenwald, for the six months he was King, hardly fought in armour at all. But if there was a fencing tourney anywhere near his vicinity, he was in the thick of it, giving it his all.

By God, the fencers loved him for it.

If it is arranged so as not to strangle the wearer , I see no reason why the helm should not be attached to a collar, or potentiallly the gorget. If that helm is deep, the straps could be fairly loose - allowing the helm to turn. They just need to be short enough that the helm cannot lift and expose...

Is it "unpadded" poles you dislike, or "headless" poles?

Do you dislike the split-head constructions, for example? Or poles with rattan "heads" in a medieval shape?

Just interested.
