Welcome to the cote-side, young jedi. There is a fair bit of German information out there, but it is often in the books buried amongst the other stuff. In most general sources, you get a bunch of stuff on France and England, a bit on Italy, a bit on Germany, and a tiny bit on Iberia. Medieval Miltar...

Make a belt frog that will keep the weapons grip at a convenient hight. Go to an auto supply shop, and pick up a small section of 1 1/2 inch heater hose. Cut about a four inch long section, and split it lenghwise. I have seen that done, and it seems to work well. Nonetheless, even with the cloth an...

Personally, I'd go Byzantine. As well as being medieval (which Roman is not), I think there are just too few Byzantines in the SCA. Any yet, of the few folks doing Byzantine, a disproportionate amount are Varangians - why not something more "mainstream"? All my humble opinions, and no offense intend...

The Archive Gathering is at 5PM on Sunday. Right gladly would I make the journey to the battles in Aethelmearc. I hear that there are fine opportunities for advancement there, with many vigorous gentles at great pains to offer noble contest. Alas, though, the long journey is beyond my humble purse....

Black Shuck (translated)- Dog of Olaf the fearless 986 Interesting! Can you give me a source for that? "Black Shuck", from the old English "scucca" meaning demon, is the scariest of all the exceptionally nasty East Anglian ghosts, and was the terror of all my late night cycle rides as a boy... m St...

I use a "seax" with my C7 rig, and a mace with my C14 rig. Most of the kills I get are strikes to the face, which seems odd with a poinard. I have never been able to get a backup out of my belt in less than a few seconds, and personally find the wrist-hanging option rather cheesy. Thus, I have the g...

Re: An update
Lord Robert Downey wrote:I have publicly declared my great desire to learn the noble Chivalric path, and pray that should you see me, you will do some small deed of armes upon my person, or gift me with advice so that I may better serve my Master.
Fine sentiments, and right gently said.

Like I said, I call on all Earl marshals to ban the unpadded ones. I'm afraid I have to disappoint you, as far as Drachenwald is concerned. I've recently decided to introduce the new (for us) option of unpadded poles, based on this survey of my Kingdom's fighters: m We will be encouraging or mandat...

Aethstan, how would you do the cheek protection? Just foam glued into the helm? And what about breathability? If it is arranged so as not to strangle the wearer , I see no reason why the helm should not be attached to a collar, or potentiallly the gorget. If that helm is deep, the straps could be fairly loose - allowing the helm to turn. They just need to be short enough that the helm cannot lift and expose...
