Despite Freiman's kind words, I am not a very good pole arm. In the days when I did have a somewhat deserved reputation, it was based on one technique - a very accurate, extremely fast, maximum-range thrust, often combined with a step like a spearfighter would use). I won a lot of bouts - and the oc...

Have I not seen Hundred Years War imagery depicting knights fighting a tourney during a break in a siege? I seem to remember them fighting over a barrier at a postern gate.

Can't find the picture...

What a crowd you guys had! How did you organize such an event? Ah, we cannot claim the credit there. We were guests of the local reenactment society, the Company of the Duke's Leopards. Robyn,

If the post is being sent to one of our military friends, it is hard to say. I have had armour arrive after four days, or six weeks later. About two weeks seems typical, but it just depends how busy the postal service is.

Video of Swan and Cross fighting on Jersey

Dear all, The Company of the Duke's Leopards on Jersey hosted three members of Drachenwald's Company of the Swan and Cross and our good friend Robert of Canterbury. The Talented filmmaker Andrew Baker-Miles made this wonderful movie: m You'll recognise three regular archivers: Giles of Redheugh (kla...

I was spelling Der Weisskunig wrong (though on page 70 they spell it yet another way, Der Weisskuenig. Sigh...). Just for info, Weisskünig and Weisskuenig are the same thing. In German, you can write the "Umlaut" signs either as two dots over the vowel (ä, ö, ü) or as an "e" following (...

Here's a shot of me in the helm which shows what I mean. Look how much the helmet bulges out over my ears (looks cool, I think), but see how little room I have over the brow. Doesn't it generally clash with Wisby Medieval Week ? That was my impression, but I admit being calendar challenged. Well, it depends how you define "Pennsic". If you think of Pennsic just being the last "battle" week, it's usually possible to do both Wisby and Pennsic. A few folks do boh most years.

I bought just this offer. It's a decent helm, and just amazing value for the price. Mine is also too tight (Van Sussen gives fair warning of that in his ad). The shape is unusual - the helm is wider from ear to ear than it is from nose to back. This looks spiffy but makes it interesting to pad - dee...

Re: Basic question after first ratan fight

If I allowed my opponent to hit my arm in order to get a clean shot at his face: Would this be his point as his blow landed first? Or would it be mine because I lost an arm whereas he lost his life? It depends which arm you mean. If it is the arm holding your weapon, then the above applies. In othe...

That sounds like a Kingdom rule, or marshal confusion. The society regs do not require padding if the gauntlets transfer the blow (ie "bridge" the hand). It's a dang good idea, but it's not required. Photocopy the rule and carry it with you. That should do it. Cheers Aeth Big Cheese Marshal (TM)

Great!

We did something similar in Poland. The guys build a bunch of "buildings" with lots of straw roofs and stuff, set them on fire at night and had a 200-man battle among - and through, and in - the flames. It was rather splendid.
