The feeling I get is that the armour in the photograph is a scale model, but nonetheles real. Also, that the scales look too thick, like plastic. However, this could be a trick of the light or the gap made the the lacing makes them cast a deeper shadow than one might expect? Other aspects and detail...

If I was asked to guess, I'd say it is a digital armour, not a real reproduction. Chris, I am curious as to why you would say that, and what your point might be. I have every reason to believe the harness is a real life-size repro. If you could see the photo in the book I believe you would feel dif...

Animal, That armour repro is not on the net that I know of, other than the photo I just posted. I scanned it from the book "Scythian Gold" which is the book for the Scythian Gold museum exhibit that toured a few years ago. That photo is the ONLY ONE in that book of a complete harness, and of course ...

Scythian Harness Reproduction (Scale)

I have been planning a Scythian harness for some time, intended for both SCA combat archery and historical timelines (and possibly even Roman/Greek events). I have identified 2 ways I am interested in going with this. ------------- One choice would to be to make what is basically a Greek hoplite har...

Am I to assume, since the Worth scales are working so well, that there is no need for dedicated scales? Steve Steve, There may still be the market for fully formed and punched scales, ready to mount. At the moment, Worth does not fill that bill. Also, I have not broached the subject of cutting mild...

An armour that makes great use of sewing skills is a 1470's era "Jack". it is a doublet made from a dozen to two dozen layers of linen cloth, quilted into an "arrow-proof" material. Consider one of those---they are ALL CLOTH and sewing! Or maybe one of the gambesons with attached mittens out of the ...

Buran, I am guessing you have checked out my recent thread on brass scales. I will be paying less than 10 cents apiece. The thicknesses are .02" for plain and .025" for polished. With a reasonable amount of effort, they can be cut with tinsnips. That might give you an idea of what to expect if you a...

Sarnac, No problem, I'm happy to share the info. The only reason I can see to pool a bunch of orders would be to get a discount. There's a 5% discount for orders of 5000 to 90000 and a discount of 10% for 10,000 to 20,000. But that would mean one person would have to split up and mail the individual...

Scale Armours: Which Cultures and Eras?

Here's the story: I have been wanting a scale armour for a very long time. Finally I am getting off my duff and doing something about it. My favored solution at present is buying spinner blades from a fishing lure manufacturer, then cutting them down and drilling new holes. Here's a photo-rendering ...

I got my blade samples from Worth and they look great. The thickness is such that I can cut the brass with my aircraft snips without difficulty. I think I am going to take the plunge and buy at least a thousand blades to make up into scales.

This helmet fits fairly close with room for some modest padding (maybe 1/4" to 3/8") but certainly not a coif. So wearing a coif underneath is not an option. Need Info on Padding & Strapping a Norman Conical

I just got my WMA Norman conical "dress" helmet in the mail, I bought it second-hand in the AA classifieds a few weeks ago. Of course, it is a lovely helmet, one would expect no less from Adam Berry. And of course, it is not lined or strapped. What kind of liner/padding should it have? Is the typica...
