Gregory, I'll be selling my Bascinet soon, and some of the stuff from that kit you see in the recent photo. I don't know if it is in within your budget or exact interest, but I thought I'd mention it. Here are the details: ⋅ MAde by Anshelm Armoury ⋅ Mild steel ⋅ size s...
I was just taking a stab at the Coppergare Helm having some---I couldn't remember. Thanks for the leads I want to make them the real way as opposed to casting or etching. And I believe that if they were lead or pot-metal filled on the back they would be reasonably sturdy. I am thinking of them for b...
That's some nice stuff! I can't believe people wren't all over those things! SInce I have a 24" noggin all the stuff would've been too tight or just plain too small for me.
I think that is a wonderful suit, from a fantasy perspective. I mean...how many suits of armor have you seen in fantasy films that had nothing of the visual interest and creativity of this guy's stuff? Well done, I say! --- Doing a Gooole search for Lord ENtropy yields what must he his website: m Ch...
I am experimenting with creating some foil plaques such as were used as decoration on some of the extant Migration Era (?) helms like the Sutton Hoo helm. Of course, such foils are somewhat delicate---yet I understand that they can be made more durable by filling the back with some substance like le...
I feel that way about combat archery too, since I am a combat archer. It's fun for me to participate and shoot you. if you take one of my good hits, cool. If you want to ignore my hits becasue you don't like CA, I can roll with that too. I'm in it for fun and to prove nothing more than that I can ha...
I could get these done for you depending on your time frame and budget. Would I need to sculpt from scratch, or do you have an original you want copied?
...On the right Vern Kriske... Oh, of course, Vern is an old pal...curse me old weathered eyeballs, I thought he might be in those photos somewhere. Great shot of you and yer young grommet! Hey...what could be more apropriate than hijacking a thread about pirates? Tim ---- I have dipped my hands in...
Your best bet to find good pirate/nautical speech from later periods (Elizabethan onwards) is to find a play from the same era that features mariners in it. Their lines will give you some good material to use, and are probably fairly authentic to period. For instance, in Shakespear's The Tempest the...
For foils/rapiers, Go buy driveway markers at Home Depot---they're fiberglass rods. Cut to length and spraypaint silver. Buy a couple of dished metal ceiling plates for hanging lamps (in the lighting aisle where the parts are for ceiling fans) for the cup hilts. Finish with a handle made of drilled-...
I know many of you will nay-say, but I am having lug soles put on my Revival riding boots for Pennsic. I will try to find the type that looks like a grid of nubs the size of pencil erasers, as opposed to the workboot lug style style. But, I will take what I can get.
Just a thought---my jack makes my back and neck really sore, but it's because the collare makes me hold my neck a slightly awkward way. However, it's enough to cause strain. So, along with everything else, consider the placement of the neck hole too and make sure it's not causing you problems.
His other item is nice too! Note the patterning. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=58373&item=3959558404&rd=1 Great fantasy piece! I wonder of he means lock-washers? If so, it would be very strong---but perhaps very heavy? Yeah, the other piece reminds me of various Eastern m...
I don't understand the appeal of titanium either---unless you are a fantasy group and you are going after elvish armour. Seems as silly as using plastic or composite for scales. Are you a medieval warrior...or The Road Warrior?
I wouldn't buy any, but I'd suggest spring steel. It's lightweight, stiff, yet it has enough mass to slow an impact (for the SCA et. al) I'm just on an authenticity kick lately, don't mind me. Since you say you are "on an authenticity kick," are you are suggesting that spring steel is authentic for...
Be careful of their return policy. IIRC, they either don't accept returns, or they charge a restocking fee. Find out before you buy: find out exact measurements, thicknesses, weights, materials, etc.
Finally, here I am: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v87/finkas/TimInArmour.jpg This is an old photo. While I still have all this gear, the only stuff I still waer from this photo is the arm harness and belt. I don't have a photo of my current rig. From the photo: Helm, gorget, brigandine, spaulder...
I guess because I don't know any historical basis for the Ringlord's configuration. My thoughts are based more on known historical methods of assembly. While TRL method might be perfectly acceptable for some, I prefer something closer to historical. But that's me.
...I'm looking to get together an order for scales from Worthco ...here's the page for their scales: m (they are made for fishing lures) The minimum order is 10,000 blades, so I would like to split this, as I don’t need more than 1000 myself...[/size] I looked into a larger size with 5 holes...
Worth will give better prices than Barlow, since Barlow is not a manufacturer and Worth is. The number 5 scales require approx 168 scales per square foot if you butt side to side and have a vertical offset of 1 inch. That scale shape measures 2.25" tall and .875" wide. Worth charges $48.30 per thous...

Steve,
Yeah, I think we'd all appreciate it if you would look into this. I hope you won't mind that I started the following thread to discuss this possibility:
On another thread, Steve wrote: I could probably have these items manufactured if someone would provide dimensions. Steve Since this topic seems so poular right now, I thought it deserved a new thread. And I thought I'd kick off this discussion of manufacturing scales with a design proposal. It allo...
I have a catalog from tem on the way, which describes all the sizes. Then I will do some more drawings to see how many of various sizes are needed. Please note that Steve of Forth Armoury mentioned some possible interest (in another thread) of having scales manufactured. Maybe we need to start a new...
E-mail sent. Also, please check your math. By my calculations (I did a layout in a vector drawing program) this size would seem to take 364 pieces per square foot, if you stagger the rows vertically by .5", which seems mandatory to cover the attachment holes. That means 15 square feet would require ...
