I agree. This is worth doing right. I urge you to get a proper Greek pattern helmet such as the others suggested. There are at least 6-7 armorers out there doing nice SCA versions. And there are at least 2 other artisans that make nice crests---also designed for SCA combat. Armorers who make SCA Gre...

I don't want to be a jerk, but these swing clasps do not look remotely appropriate for a leather pouch pre 1960. In other words, isn't this more like what one would find on a Hippie purse than on anything Medieval or Renaissance era? If I am off base here, let me know. What about a buckle and straps...

Well put, Steve. I have a one-piece 8.5' diam (at the eaves, 11' diam at the ground) Midwest Tents round and it is a task to lift the centerpole into position with the weight of entire tent bearing down. I sue the same method as Steve described, I set my high wind lines and use them to "lever" up th...

Let's work on the theory that it is a breastplate, just for a moment, and just for argument's sake. Clearly, the segmented fauld is attached to something that rides underneath the muscled breastplate. So what can we theorize this component/structure would be (in the proposed scenario)? Is it fabric?...

Don't forget a ground cover/canvas floor painted to look like a tiles (ala King Rene). And lining for the tent walls that is "diapered". I have always thought an aumbrey would be great. In one format, it's a 4'-5' tall piece of furniture which is essentially a cabinet on four long legs with an open ...

..Midwest Tent...They use much heavier canvas than necessary, making the overall weight an issue... This would seem to be a variable. In my Midwest Tents round pavilion, the canvas seems lighter and less dense a weave than the typical Sunforger canvas used by most tent makers. I get the feeling thi...

First of all, I've owned several historical tents, both round and square. I'd be happy to share my perspective. I'm not sure if you care, but the square type tent seems to show up in the iconography of Europe during the medieval & renaissance eras---only as a rarity. The round pavilion is arguably m...

"Because this is a skilled sculptor who clearly is able to depict structure and form." But for some reason not abdominal musculature. I raised that inconsistency earlier. The 'muscles' go way too far round and are too high up the body. So how can he be good one minute and so poor the next, it doesn...

I still don't buy the quilted theory or the coat of plates theory. Why? Because this is a skilled sculptor who clearly is able to depict structure and form. And IMHO a skilled sculptor would depict quiliting more definitively, and coat of plates more appropriately (no compound "pillow" curves as see...

I bought a bunch of Museum Replicas riveted (2 shirts + 1 sleeveless vest)with the idea of making a lorica hamata with the shoulder doubling---but haven't done it yet. I could make you a good deal on any or all of this riveted stuff. Let me know if you have any interest and I can supply more details...

Something like this: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v87/finkas/ScythianWagon02.jpg This would be based on a box that's 7' long x 4' wide x 3' deep (or something like that). So how does one arrange to have something large stored at Pennsic? And how much does it cost? I have been toying with the idea of creating a large Scythian wagon to camp in, inspired by clay models from the period. I just don't want to store it here (at home) nor lug it out every year. Any info or i...
