I agree. This is worth doing right. I urge you to get a proper Greek pattern helmet such as the others suggested. There are at least 6-7 armorers out there doing nice SCA versions. And there are at least 2 other artisans that make nice crests---also designed for SCA combat. Armorers who make SCA Gre...

I don't want to be a jerk, but these swing clasps do not look remotely appropriate for a leather pouch pre 1960. In other words, isn't this more like what one would find on a Hippie purse than on anything Medieval or Renaissance era? If I am off base here, let me know. What about a buckle and straps...

I have a one-piece 8.5' diam (at the eaves, 11' diam at the ground) Midwest Tents round and it is a task to lift the centerpole into position with the weight of entire tent bearing down. I sue the same method as Steve described, I set my high wind lines and use them to "lever" up th...

Let's work on the theory that it is a breastplate, just for a moment, and just for argument's sake. Clearly, the segmented fauld is attached to something that rides underneath the muscled breastplate. So what can we theorize this component/structure would be (in the proposed scenario)? Is it fabric?...

Don't forget a ground cover/canvas floor painted to look like a tiles (ala King Rene). And lining for the tent walls that is "diapered". I have always thought an aumbrey would be great. In one format, it's a 4'-5' tall piece of furniture which is essentially a cabinet on four long legs with an open ...

..Midwest Tent...They use much heavier canvas than necessary, making the overall weight an issue... This would seem to be a variable. In my Midwest Tents round pavilion, the canvas seems lighter and less dense a weave than the typical Sunforger canvas used by most tent makers. I get the feeling thi...

First of all, I've owned several historical tents, both round and square. I'd be happy to share my perspective. I'm not sure if you care, but the square type tent seems to show up in the iconography of Europe during the medieval & renaissance eras---only as a rarity. The round pavilion is arguably m...

I still don't buy the quilted theory or the coat of plates theory. Why? Because this is a skilled sculptor who clearly is able to depict structure and form. And IMHO a skilled sculptor would depict quiliting more definitively, and coat of plates more appropriately (no compound "pillow" curves as see...

Awesome! Love it!

Arguably, you could make such a thing SCA list legal by wearing it OVER a simple SCA legal helmet (like an Ashcraft Baker).

Not to throw a wrench in the gears but I do believe I've seen that belt, or something like it, depicted in 15th century art. I did an exhaustive search years ago when planning my WOR gear and seem to remember seeing a rig "
like" that in the iconography. Sorry but I cannot say where.

There's a nice cooking scene on the Bayeux (?) Tapestry. A spit is depicted, resting on two upright forks. And the whole affair stands over a raised firebox of some sort. I had that firebox (but not the spits) made a long time ago for our medieval campouts.
