Hold on now...I got the distict feeling the original thread that this was based on (now deleted?) was talking about a horse tail, tanned in one piece, fastened to the top of a helmet like the simplification/bastardization of a Greek/Roman comb-type crest. I was lead to this supposition by the origin...

Oh, me too, Syr Fynn. I admit that in my early Ren Faire days I also had those front-lacing knee boots, and the ankle high boots too. Mind you, I cut the fringe off to make them appear less egregious. Alone, perhaps the Minnetonka mocs are not so bad---but the combo of all those aforementioned eleme...

Since when has that stopped people from wearing modern kilts? Hehe. Yup. And they typically wear those modern kilts with fringe-top Minnetonka mocassin boots, a 1970's-era girl's mexican leather purse (conplete with twist lock hasp), a cotton gauze peasant shirt with brass eyelets and leather cord ...

Interesting discussion, but would not James II and Captain Kidd seem to be moot to the original question since both are post 1600 (the historical cut-off date for the SCA)? Actually it does not sound unreasonable when you consider that the scale-happy Scythians shod shields in iron scales on occasion. That bent oval thing covering the shoulders in the display photo'd below is a shield covered in iron scales. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v87/finkas/ScythianHarness-...

The Worth Company has brass but not bronze. They are a manufacturer of spinners and may be your best price. They will custom make scales but you'll need to order 10 thousand in order to make it cost effective. BTW: That site that Black Thumb just listed looks to be a reseller, not a manufacturer (A...

It's pretty thin stuff. Not like foil, but very thin. I think the package said .005" thickness---it's the precut prepackaged type of sheets they sell at model & hobby shops.

Both Dirk Lancaster (Dirk's Metal Works) and his brother Brand (The Armor Store?) are making some very clean bargrilled helmets. AB Hammer is also making some clean bargrills. I am sure there are more very good armorers makin...

I agree. An asshole in pretty armour at least makes the battlefield look nicer. But an asshole in crappy armor is offending to all the senses!

I am thinking of gifting that king with a really nice recreation of a belt of bells---in a style proper to his personna period. It would cost me a couple of hundred dollars to produce but it might be a fun gesture. The idea is that the rat (erstwhile, me) bells the cat (the King) in order to get war...

I needed some blue tape for my helmet because I started combat on Thursday and nobody had any. I ran into Malcom, the King of Aethelmarc and he tore some off his own helmet and gave it to me. Cool guy.

...I'm saying this to you as a friend: You appear to have overreacted. I hear you. Thanks. Even though I am 47 years old I am "young" by way of being an SCA fighter, having fielded only a dozen or so times. So, I don't really have much perspective yet on the whole thing---I am still learning.
