The ideal material is 'Sunforger' canvas. Panther will retail it for you but so will several other companies who have never heard of the SCA. A quick google on Sunforger' should find a bunch.

Good Luck!

Re: Decorated Leather Wallet Birka Grave 750

Haldan, I'm sorry but you are not the first person to experience this and probably won't be the last. Just as some stick-joxs are drawn to armored combat for the athletic competition rather than the act itself, there are artist who are drawn to A&S competitions for the challenge rather than the art....

Is this a 1-off or someone who makes armor like this for sale? If 1-off, is it a newbie looking to sell their old kit and get a better one. If it's only the one and buying it gets this off the field and helps a new fighter get into better gear then I'll throw $20 in the hat for someone local to him ...

Re: Not exactly armor but .... Period tents

Couple of things, I would be happy to buy a tent as opposed to trying to make my own, I just have a bad case of BAS (that's broke as shit) disease. While I haven't done a price breakdown I would say that building ONE tent would be more expensive then buying one of equal size. For an 8' tall 6' wide...

For clarity, you want plans to BUILD your tent not sites to purchase a tent? Plenty of places to buy a center-pole 10x10. Please note that a queen air mattress or bed is exactly 5 ft wide so if the pole is thicker then a human hair it's going to bump both the center pole and one wall. You may want t...

Clean metal and rustoleum spray-paint works pretty damn good on stainless, mild and aluminum. Yes it can scrape off but only powder-coat is more durable and that can also scrape off.

Re: Hal's crazy idea # 347.01

I'm not so certain I would want my dishing ring or bouging surface being driven into the cement but if you want to try it you can separate it so it fits in a flat-pack. Make legs 1 & 2 with their 137-point-whatever angle between the main axis and a square plate with 4 holes at the apex. Repeat with ...

Re: Dimensions of an arrow loops in a crenelation?

Sean, I am sure shooting from between and over merlons was part of the game as well. But here is the thing to keep in mind. Usually castle garrisons were small. When you look at the lists of men and equipment they often have far more bows and crossbows than archers and crossbowmen. I suspect men at...

Re: Dimensions of an arrow loops in a crenelation?

I do not think that is true Chef. In fact I think crossbows and handguns were not even used quite that way. Many loops likely had the archer a ways back from the opening. In this manner unless you were in a room with a low roof the warbow would have plenty of space to be used. I actually had plans ...

Randal! I knew someone here would have the dry data I was looking for. :) The idea stemmed from an excuse to play with the compound miter saw. I was thinking of a cross about 3'4" tall and 2'4" wide with a 4" gap horizontally and vertically to shoot through. I figure about a 30 degree per side taper...

I'm too much of a numbers geek for 'varies considerably' to be a sufficient answer. I'm thinking more: "In a quantitaive analysis the archer slits were found to vary from 31.5" to 56" with a mean of 47.666" in the sections dated to 1313 through 1345 but instead vary from 33" to only 46" with a mean ...

So ya swap 'em off, soapy water and oil, and hope they balance out. Come to think of it, how about just plain bar soap gunked into the flutes of the bit? The big problem with the breast is that the real ones which were done this way weren't symmetric, one has goes past the rivets farther so that it can underlap the other plate so you don't get a little gap.
