Re: Quick (or not so quick) ASO question
I have a 1' section of anvil and looked hard to get a 3' as well. Plan is to cut 6" of flange on one end and 18" of flange on the other then taper out the web. This gets mounted on a tri-pod or table with flared legs so it is never over-balanced. The short end stays a nice corner for rolling edges b...

Re: How do you keep from chewing up your fold line?
I use a line on my anvil. Some times tape, some times a sharpie marker. Distance from anvil edge to tape or sharpie = height of flange. Then I look at the edge of the cop and know that the corner is in the right spot. Make certain you have a clean edge on the anvil. Trace a line on the anvil paralle...

It could stand to be deeper but I wouldn't try to make this one deeper now that you have a crease in it. For the steel to stretch properly it wants to be in contact with your dish almost all of the 360 degrees around the hammer strike. If you dish now you will unfold the crease and I bet the combina...

I'm sorry. I was thinking that it was ductile steel. My brain wasn't engaged. I'll edit my post.

Ernst! Thank you. I had assumed that the plates were secured to the cloth, not a seperate layer. That gives us all sorts of possibilities for changing (and washing!) the outer garment and still providing protection. The wearer can have a general purpose garment for practice to test the pattern and t...

Edit: My information was faulty as I presumed is was a low alloy ductile steel not cast iron. Thomas powers below has much better advice. Honestly a soft anvil isn't a bad thing if you view it as a disposible tool. It won't last forver but it's not priced like a forever tool. It's a good learning to...

Oh it's well more then 1000. There are more then 1000 in each leg pannel and I suck and jelly-bean estimation. The cannoe tacks are 2.64 cents each so 10,000 nails would be $264 plus all the labor. I also don't think they would add any durability for modern sport combat. I'm wondering if I can't hel...

Re: Leather soled hosen, or carefully matched shoes?
So how does this work? Hose with soles would wear out too fast so now the hose and the shoes need to be carefully color matched. If the shoes wear out first do you re-match the new shoes to the old hose? Or re-dye the worn hose to the new shoes? Or do you just discard the partially worn hose with th...

Need info/pics: BACK of a Char Aina or mixed maile and plate
Title says it all. Lots of pics of the front of Char Aina aka mirror armor aka Ottoman Krug but none of the back. Can anyone help with any of these styles? Was it all maile or more mix of plates with maile or something else?
Thanks,

Per a recent email on the EK Marshals mailing list: The wrong file was uploaded. Madus are NOT expressly disallowed but may still be limited to 1 thrusting tip if they are short madus. I'd wait until the correct file was uploaded before a new/old comparison.

So Madus are illegal but a 49" stick with 2 thrusting tips and a gauntlet with a 12" dinner plate for finger reinforce isn't. I'm not in favor of Madon'ts but it seems like the rule was not writen well.

Question: would a partially cut or deeply scored coin be possible to flex and brak in half? If so a practiced hand wouldn't need to worry about them 'tiddlywink'ing away. A partial cut and a snap would suffice. I imagine that cutting would only be necessary until there was enough partial coins for m...

I'm glad other people think this is a fake too. There was something that struck me as too modern of a consistancy of the rivet location for the pivot in the brim (does it really pivot up?) and a poor fit between the brim and the bowl.

There was a thing we did back in cub scouts where a kid would sit near a wall sideways and a flashlight or desk lamp would shine from the other side of the room. Re: Newbie Hot Rolling Question
Is it 'better' to hot roll stainless? The benefit is in moving the hot section where you want it to be with less force and not unintentionally moving the cold section. If the piece shape is approximate and the occasional flatening or cupping won't harm it then cold is usually fine. You do have to r...

You could cut a hole in 1 piece but can you make the hole PERFECT? If the sides aren't parallel the collar might stick or might get sloppy. With a sharp blade and good fence I can rip a clean edge on MDF flat within 0.001". Flip that around and I can get small spacers that are also within +/-0.001" ...

So with that being said, do you think that certain groups focused on competition and winning and less on chivalry would use these UAVs' bird's eye view along with a radio receiver in his warband's ears to call out and command the warband to maximize weaknesses in the enemy's lines/formations?
