OK, I WANT the really fake looking shiny maille. It is for a stage show, and while not in the least bit authentic, it is what the audience (and the director, management and most importantly, my boss) want. This is for a Ren-Faire joust, cheesy, yes. But shiny aluminum coifs play well in the sunlight...

Acid etching aluminum rings?

OK, is there any way of acid etching rings once maile is finished? I have a coif that has turned an ugly grey color and leaves the aluminum oxide residue on everything it touches. Not good! Can I acid etch the coif? How can I make it stop "bleeding" that nasty grey film onto everything it touches? I...

WTB 2 piece lance / spear

OK, I'm looking for a lance or spear that can be taken down into two pieces (for ease of transport) about 5' long or so. This is for practice, so the lance head could be just blunted wood or rebated steel. Anyone know where I can get one? Anyone willing and able to make one? Thanks in advance! ~Kevin

I was sorry you couldn't make it to Brian's last weekend. My last trip to the shop (probably) until RenFaire is over in September. :-(

liner for 16th c. comb morion.

Anyone know what style of liner to use? I was thinking a linen or canvas liner sewn to a leather browband. While I know this would work, how were they actually done?
Thanks!

Matt,
I could use the Bretonnian Knights and archers. Possibly the whole box set as a small unit of lizard men could be cool.
I also don't know what it's worth though.
I know archers are dirt cheap on E-bay- I got a unit of 50 for $7.50 + shipping. The knights aren't nearly so cheap though.

I fight in a sallet that is padded with an arming cap. I made it myself out of 100% cotton batting, rolled up then stuffed into channels. It is about 1/2" to 3/4" thick, and is about a medium firmness with the channels stuffed fairly tight, with a progressive stiffening. I've never had any problems ...

Pics of this helm can be found on Gundo's site here: http://www.wiseogre.com/latehelm.htm It is the sallet on the top of the page, but these pics were taken before I blackened it and before the bevor was modified to slope down toward the breastplate more. I will take pics of the helm in its current ...

Sallet for Sale, possibly some other armour

I have a large (24-25" head) Sallet made by Wise Ogre armoury for sale. It has a built in bevor and a slit visor. I will get some pics this weekend, I think Gundo still has a pic of it on his site. It has a Stainless crown and the remainder is mild steel that has been blackened. Pretty cool looking ...

Thanks for the info! For some reason I was thinking this was a Ford F150 with the 300 CI inline 6.
No worries though, I just bought a Ford F250 4X4 w/ a 351. Should pull my horse and her boyfriend with no problems.

Yeah, I was thinking it was the 300 CI engine. A 3.0L is certainly not big enough to pull my girl, much less my girl and her new "boyfriend". I'll have to dig through old emails and see what sizes they should be (I think it was either a 52 or 54 and a 56).
I'll shoot ya an email later w/ address.

I believe the Ffoulkes references are from 16th C., I'll double check. I have a pic at home of an Elizabethan arming doublet that is covered with button holes. Very very cool, but I don't have the patience to make one or the bank account to pay someone to do it for me!

My cousin and I were talking about this just the other day. Plastic armour, but in the form of a space marine. Would be a fun project, and as it is plastic I can do it at home.
Right now it's just in the discussion page, but it would be a killer halloween costume.
