My kabuto (from Mykaru) is powder coated. It's been beat on a few times and still is as good as new.

It's powder coated in a semi-gloss black and looks great.

I'm looking for a modern reproduction of a manchira, with kikko, not maile.

Hanzo, Hey at least you are trying. I have a full vest/shirt of Japanese style butted mail if you are interested. I could let it go for $75 plus shipping. If you want I can take images. You could cut this apart and replace the lacing with the mail. Mykaru is working on my kote and suneate now. I hav...

When lacing, I HIGHLY recommend getting ahold of a copy of "The Samuai Undressed".

Good stuff.

I've used either LacesForLess in bulk (3/8"), I think for 144 feet, with shipping I paid 23 bucks (email them to get it in bulk). I only use this when making my SCA armour. I've never used paracord as it's simply not wide enough, plus the brading in the cord does not look good in my opinion. For a f...

Helmut, I guess I did not make my message clear enough in my excitement. I sent my haubergeon back to Steve for cleaning. He did the bang up job. He got it on a Friday, I got it back on Thursday... Forth Armoury Review

Today I got my haubergeon back from Steve. It saw it's share of hell over the past year, and was in need of a serious cleanup. I had given it a rust treatment, but that just made the rust a lot finer... blech! Here it is after the clea...

In my honest opinion there is really only one maker of quality and more importantly ACCURATE kabuto that can function in an SCA env...

No, they are not SCA leagal. Look at the way the fingers are. SCA finger gauntlets cannot pass impacts directly to the fingers. These will.

Mind you I'm not saying the gauntlets are not incredible, they are just not SCA legal from what I Can see.

Well my Oaks Armoury kit is nearly done, so I'm going to sell my existing kit off. I'm 5'10" and 175 lbs, average build. If you are very small or very tall, don't bother as more than likely the stuff won't fit you, but if you are in the middle this stuff will fit. Currently I have the following avai...
