Early 15th Century Kettle helms

Anyone have any good images of late 14th early 15th Century kettle helms.

I'm trying to get some ideas for my new WMA kettle helm and am not having much luck finding something a bit different but still period.

Bart,

What I did is attach the strapping to the bars (in my case slats) in the back of the helm behind my ears and ran them up to a nice handmade leather chin cup. The rig buckles up under the right side of my jaw.

Congrats on what I consider Adam's best helm to date.

I too have one of his kettles and I'm always either the "guy with the kettle" or the "guy with the dead sexy gaunts"...

Needless to say I become a quick target... =)

Anyone know the time period for the start of eye slots on kettle helms. I've seen some German visored ones, but just want the eye slots. I always like to have SOME documentation to back up my kit...

Thanks Adam!

Mahiro Shukosa,

I have at least 10 pieces of Japanese armour from 4 differing periods.

None of the chain seems rivetted in any way, quite a bit of it (50%) is double wrapped chain.

If someone picks me up the nice new almond shaped on on his site, I'd gladly trade this one for it. =)

I need two kettle helms. This one is just damn sexy. Like woah.

Not to mention it would go GREAT with my corrazina.

I wish your queue was not so long...

Actually that was much the same idea I was going to use to top off my kote.

They are kung-fu gloves backed by metal.

Not bad.

The gaunts are from Sasuke at Oaks Armoury.

Cost? I dunno, I bought a set of arms, legs, corrazina, gorget, and the gaunts with finger buckers for $1200. I don't know what Sasuke charges for just the gaunts.

Mind you I bought all these second hand...

I'll second everything said about Thadd's grill. I thought it was one of Adam's at first. It's that good... Thank you much for the compliements. Well typically almost all of the solid armours in the late 14th century were worn OVER a haubergeon.

If you had to choose between a corrazina or a haubergeon, I would go with the corrazina.

Now the question is, what to add to it to make it SCA legal, but still look authentic?

I would add a slat back from temple to temple, and a full bar grill.

Similar to how WMA does his kettle helms.

Yoshida, The top most shikoro (the hachitsuke-no-ita?) is held to the bowl of the kabuto with eight screw and nuts (they are the gold round things in the side image). The shikoro themselves are simply held together with the lacing. It's fairly strong, so I am not all that worried about it, should so...

Your kit is only a few years older than mine.

I would recommend CLANG for your arms. I use his now.

As for turnshoes, I have a pair of Historic Enterprises which fit and so far are wearing well.

Thank you for that post Mykaru. I really don't think people know just how hard it is to make a kabuto. Even more so if it is a multiplate hachi style vs. the slightly more simply zunari. Top that all off with punching the hundreds of holes for the shikoro, making sure the shikoro line up properly, a...

I know Mykaru puts a solid skirt plate under the shikoro (I think it's called a shitaji-koro). Quite frankly for the prices those guys are charging, go with a helm from Mykaru if he has a slot open. You want a good japanese style helm you NEED to pay for it. I paid $400-$500 for mine, and it was wor...
