I think there is an easy way to solve this. Move the SCA combat to a point system for hits. Hockey gear and it's ilk is worth one point. One hit with a weapon is one point. Meaning if you get hit, you are dead. People with full chain kits get a couple more points, people with 14th century transition...

I'm not trying to be a dick here, but I am far from rich, in fact many weeks I can barely pay the bills but I was able to put together a damn fine late 14th century kit. If I can do it, most other people can. you just have to play the prorities game. For me, having an accurate, and good looking harn...

I fight in some of flonzy's stuff. Wool chausses, linen braies and shirt. Last weekend I was fine in my gear for several hours at a time. I wear almost 100% metal (late 14th century) and feel fine in it. The ONLY problem I have is that my gambeson is open in the arm pits and I get some chain armour ...

When I used to make CoP's I found that copper roofing nails worked great. I just had to make sure I filed all the flashing off the nail "stems". As for the pattern to use, I prefer some of the higher number Wisby styles, as the lower number Wisby's lack flexibility in my opinion. However the Wisby 1...

Well if they used Velvet on real armour, I would have to say it's rather durable, considering we have some stuff in displays that still retains some or all of it's velvet covering.

My corrazina however has a canvas cover over the metal, and it has thus far survived about 5 months of repeated beatings

Actually that is one of Sinric's helms. What I always hear (I make a very hard attempt at an accurate very late 14th century French (Burgundian) kit) is that metal is too heavy, and slows you down. I swear at this event the number of people wearing hockeypad armour out numbered those of us wearing a...
