Ahhhh... to be using a hammer again.

Thanks to a buddy in the barony, I was able to get a nice 25lb block of lead so that I could do some rivetting on my James River Armoury legs and CLANG arms. I'm adding arming points to both of them. I got a very nice half hide (brown full grain sides at $50 a pop) from http://www.brettunsvillage.co...

Simple breastplate over CoP

I've read in several books that a simple breastplate was often worn OVER a CoP.

Does anyone have any images of this?

I would assume the breastplate would be similar to a Churburg #14, but correct me if I am wrong.

Was the breastplate kept white, or was it usually covered?

Klaus, that's the thing, I already know armouring, well the basics anyways, way back in 1995 or so I did a lot of armour for the Shire of Smoking Rocks (it was not yet a barony when I was there), mostly simple stuff like CoP's, spauders and great helms. The problem is I live in an apartment complex ...

Right around my period. You wear only chausses (wool or linen) under your legs, wear set of small volleyball knee pads over my chausses that are the same colour of my chausses, so you cannot see them when I am out of armour. Other than that strap your armour tight. Not so tight that it binds or cuts...

You make a valid point John. Especially doing Pas deArmes, the corrazina would be much better than a simple CoP.

I think I just need to get a second job to keep my armour whoring going. The Wife is already a little displeased with my huge amount of armour spending this year.. =)

I don't think anything but linen or wool chausses were worn under leg armour in the 14th century. Maybe a cut blanket to serve as "padding" for the knees, but I think that is about it.

I find that if I do not strap my armour tightly it stings when hit. If it is strapped tightly, all is good.

Adam,

You said it yourself, the amount of labour you put into a helm is important, especially on a $350 helm. Please don't take my comments to be anything negative. I've ALWAYS cleaned up my armour or had to do something to it when it comes to me, regardless of the armourer.

There are two main ways to do powder coating. The first is an item is lowered into a liquid bed of the powder, which may or may not have a charge to it (I mean a electrostatic charge here, not costs). The second is the powdered paint is charged with electrons and sprayed onto the part. The part is t...

Thanks for the compliments John. I've got some new spaulders, in a more Italian style on the way to me shortly, which will give me a much better look as well as they are more period and will allow me to more easliy wear my CLANG arms.

I wear a linen shirt under a 100% cotton gambeson, followed by a Forth Armoury chain haubergeon with a Wisby 23ish style COP. The leather used is VERY heavy, I would guess about 10oz. I don't have a problem with heat at all. The linen shirt seems to make a HUGE difference, as if I am fighting in any...

For Sale: Oaks Armoury Corrazina

Hate to part with this one, but I have no choice. I cannot find a decent bascinet with houndskull visor (Italian style) for the kit, so I'm forced to go for a slightly earlier period for my SCA kit. This is a very fine piece of armour. Slightly used (well the corazzina is, the gorget has not been us...

Depends. If I have it strapped the right way (tight against the back of the helm and my chin) the only time it really rings is if it is a skippy shot right to the brim, and even then it is not so bad. If I have the helm on loose then it can be like a church bell. Good shots to the bowl don't ring mu...
