Its mostly the same reason people still wear carpet and plastic barrel armour.

1.) Its cheap.
2.) Its quick.
3.) It doesn't require upkeep for the most part.

Skip the C belt, do not pass go, and make her a proper pourpoint instead. Having fought with a pourpoint for years and recently moving to a C-belt, for a regular fighter not too up on being 100% historically accurate, the C-belt feels and rides a lot better in my opinion. I'm glad its easy to hide ...

New desktop computer for trade (nice hauberk needed)

I have a brand new desktop computer, complete with Windows 7. Core2 Duo 4 GB RAm 160 GB HDD 256 MB ATI based video card for trade for a decent hauberk. Needs to be lighter weight riveted and hopefully blackened. I don't care if its round or flat ring as long as it is decent weight. Used, new no matt...

How are they hand cut? Saw or snip?

I'm getting tired of doing butted maille with snipped links. They don't look near as good as saw cut.

Get ahold of Lockharts wife...

She did a 14th century gambeson for me, and I love it... she does a lot of the padded cussies and such so a full aketon wouldn't be that much different.
