Interesting signature... Sakyo no shin Munemitsu was the son of Rokurozaemon Sukemitsu a rather well known smith. He and his brother Katsumitsu battled against the Yamana clan around 1483 at the start of another war later that year. Following his fighting he went off to Kyoto on more than one occasi...

San Jacopo silver altar (Pistoia Cathedral).... need images

I'm basing my latest kit off of a image on the San Jacopo Altar in the Pistoia Cathedral.

I've lost my previous images of it, does anyone have detailed shots of the lower part of the altar with the various armours?

I fought in one for nearly a full year. In fact it was one of WMA's first kettlehelms. The ONLY time I had problems with it was spear shots to the face that tended to catch on the brim. As you can see there were no issues at all with any visiblity. I would go back to one in a second if I was still d...

Some VERY unusual Japanese Armour

http://www.toraba.com/dou-0605-2223.htm

A san-mai dou... with the advent of widespread matchlocks, some ingenius armourer came up with this.

I've NEVER seen one before, nor has the seller who is quite a collector himself.

And its real...

The period requested was 1392-1573. Ashigaru started as shimobe which were typically found starting in the Heian period (around 795 to 1185, it might be 794, I forget). The first use of Ashigaru was seen in the Taiheiki which discussed the battles against the Mongols in 1274 and 1281. The word was u...

Re: Japanese Masters.....help?

So I've been in and out of the SCA for about a year now with 14th c. Europe being my only period experience. Recently my best friend and I decided we are going to make full suits of Japanese armor. Now I'm sorrry in advance if I screw up some terms... I have one big problem I keep running into when...

When I had my 14th century European suit, the only padding I had was some light wool blanket cut up and wrapped around my knee. Since the armour was made for me, all that was worn under it was my linen chausses. Never had a problem with getting slapped. I was a pole fighter so I got hit in the legs ...

If I am not mistaken the Corrizina in the Met isn't accurate, and may actually be made up of at least three different pieces of armour (I could be wrong, but I thought I remember hearing something about this).
