Hello all.. thank you for your reply and observations... 1) Yes, the holes are for the liner, but probably for this kind of shape, fewer holes and a internal leather band would be more appropriate. 2) no, this won't have a visor, but the next one probably will have it, there is a kind of visor made ...

Chalcis inspired protosalletbascinetbarbute

This is the first try at a welded helm since 2 year, it's a pattern of mine that was miscaled a bit so i decided to add a patch on the back, for this reason from a bascinet it has turned into a sallet. The pattern was developed on some Chalcis bascirbute, i hope to show soon how it would turn out wi...

The helm will be for reenactment, so no need for a rigid fundation, the idea to make if with fake bands of scales and rivet/weld the bands toghether is very cool! I already designed the leather cap, i just need to try to make it.. The most interesting part in this kind of helm is that it should be "...

I don't think that 2 castle at 100 yard is a good idea, people will meet between and stall there forever.
I would build just 1 castle, and try to assault it, in the space of a weekend you can swap teams and in the end see which team made more points both in defence and assault.

James I've seen it on some painting that now i can't remember of, for many reenactors is enough even if extant pieces are unknown. My idea is to make a leather fundation (maybe in 6 pieces sewn togheter like a sort of half football ball) and then cover it with custom fitted scales, maybe i can have ...

scale head protection and scale aventail

It looks like a sort of item that is never take in consideration by reenactors and armourers, it look like a quite easy project that can be made with few skills and tools. The question is: have someone of you made such kind of items? Some of you have some source material from which start researching...

Money in pouch are easier to remove, but they left hundreds of coin with the bodies, probably the number of helms belonged to them was very little, considering that some of them wore a maille hauberk OR a coat of plate, and almost never both togheter (that was the common practice as i know). Maybe artists preferred to depict nice things (i.e. nice armour) more than ugly black munition pieces... it's comprehensible from many artistical points of view. Would you prefer to draw a nice new sportcar with interesting shapes and detail, or a old rusty Ford Taunus? Other than this, usually, peo...

Powertools are dangerous only if you use them without thinking that you can get hurt, maimed or killed. In general the more spin fast, the more you must take care. I think that you can use them without too much fear, wear proper safety equipment (goggles, earplug, gloves) and until you are focused o...

The diameter and the depth of the dish are not the most important things in a dish, it is much more important how you place the piece over it, and how you hammer it. I'm in the reenactment field (on the side of the field? ) well, we do rebated steel combat, armored and unarmored.
