I work alone, with just a pair of tongs, I don't like that someone else hold my piece over the stake, because I need to place the piece, the stake and the hammer in a way that i can't explain each time, for some work it helps, but for rough shaping not (at least for me).

I'm far to be a strong man (i'm 30.. am I a man?) but I can hot dish metal really fast into shape even if iron is not red hot, it's always softer than cold iron. Have you tried hotworking? I think that more i work hot, the more i want to work hot.. and i use just a weed burner and firebricks.

Bodkin could have been developed to face Maille.
The breaking of the tip if used against white armour, should give the arrow more "grip" and more edges that could crack che metal... is something about statistic i think.

My hope is to have someday some kind of E-BOOK with pictures at a resolution high enough to permit printing in large formats (A3, A2, why no A1?) at a good resolution. And maybe multylanguage text. If this kind of product will be safe enough against piracy attempt, and their price in the affordable ...

A project like that in my view of things, would require a different aproach: 1) the picture should be less "artistic" and more "scientific" they must allow to understand proportions and measures, so quite limiting for the photographer 2) all such material would make sense only with a heavy load of h...

A spear can bring one thousand time the force of a bow on the same pinpoint spot, and is less prone to glancing over round surfaces due it's inerthia. we are not talking of bullets of different weights and speeds, we are talking of two different worlds here. So Speed is a factor only in a comparable ...

During the raising process, many things could happen, depending in what you do. Raising is a hard technique to master properly due to this freedom. I'm far from an expert, but i can say for sure, that these factors: 1) how the metal is placed again the stake 2) where and how you hit the metal 3) the...

If i'm not wrong understanding the difference between coal and gas, one of the main factor is that coal in the end is a hot mass, that transmit heat to the metal that is in contact with it, while gas burner use a blast of hot gasses to transmit heat. Is this wrong? If not, someone have tried to forg...

I think we too often forget that there was armour and armour, not all armour was nice and well made, stock production and munition armour was a reality, so it's reasonable that the sanding phase was skipped and the surface coated in some way. I don't know if medieval sheet metal came out with the bl...
