I use two small balls welded side by side as stakes, so for first i dish the knuckle part, then i mark and push in the lines with a rounded rectangular hammer.
Using the balls you can reach almost everywhere.

Bruno your solution is not SCA legal, and i assure you, your head could not withstand full force blows without going in contact with the helm, you could receive severe damage in a full contact environment (don't try this at home! ) This solution is very simple and good for reenactment, for staged co...

It could work, but you need to make the arm openings going more near the neck, the arm opening should look more / V \ than | V | in this way you can raise your arms without raising the whole weight of the gambeson, and it won't limit other movements.

I hope it's clear.

If it is a CO2 "only" extinguisher (the boy is red and the top grey) then after you remove the valve, you can do with it what you want. But if it contained powder, propelled by CO2, the body it too thin for make a bowl with it, the CO2 cardrige is much smaller and unserviceable for a dishing bowl too.

start dishing a piece of iron on the top, if don't broke, a depression will naturally appear as wood compresses, then a bit of angle grinder to even out the result and could be ok.
Check for the integrity of the wood, or it may split in pieces
