This is what i learned from dishing: i don't start dishing from the very edge, but around a 1 inch or less inside. After each dishing pass i hammer flat over the anvil the edgeS that will be welded to the other side (THE PART I DID'T WORKED). Only when the dishing reach a good dept, i start working ...

Ehy! Is a cool STARWARS HISTORICAL ARMOUR! Why when people say that he made a reproduction, he should copy silly human armourers? There is a universe full of armourers, you need only to choose the planet you prefer! As i see you don't know nothing of Gastramenorrea ancient armours... Pfui! Good job!...

Personally i use 3 different hammer, or better, 3 heads 2 hammers: i start with 1 inch ball, i use a 1 and 1/2, and a very large shallow domed head for "even" the dishing. I do all into a steel dish, so, no soft vs hard or hard vs soft.. i'm not strong so is not hard for me to control my blows.. sof...

Probably before you grab an hammer and start smashing metal, you should take the time to learn how to, what to, with what where when and so on. In this way you won't have any armour for Xmas, but you could know a little better wht you need to make it properly. I spent more than 3 years on armouring....

An archer have some necessity that men at arms don't have, so i don't think that many piece of armor for a men at arms would be useful for using a bow.
Or : why give a bowman a piece of armour that would be more useful to replace some broken or damaged piece of a first line footman?

You can use a chemical blueing agent over stainless. Stainless don't mean "impossible to rust" mean : in normal condition air moisture, salt and other common agent won't affect the metal. But stainless can react with a chemical if the chemical is strong enough. For example: i don't think that modern...

But you are right.. next time will be better, and further will always be better.

I usually sacrifice a virgin over the forge.. if blood don't turn off the fire.. it works!
Otherwise a little fire of wood, paper, and so on should give you enough power to lit the coal.
Enjoy! It's very fun to play with a forge!
