Re: ISO Examples of agile Men at Arms
According to several accounts, Boucicaut was smaller compared to the average knights, this probably pushed his need to be stronger than them, so he probably invested much more time in training and exercises.

Re: Fitting a late bascinet, Wallace A74
Another idea could be this: take a picture from the longest distance possibile, behind the head a squared surface, and a tiny (2x2, 3x3) squared patch over the temple. This could allow to check and correct the perspective distortion between the two gridded planes. But I'm sure that Mac is right, the...

Re: Fitting a late bascinet, Wallace A74
In this case, to make a realistic head profile, you have to set the lamp, the head to be square to the surface, and perfectly aligned, otherwise you will obtain sections that are not reconciliable to the real profile, the shape and dimension of the light source influence the "resolution" of your sha...

But.. once you have a very specific head to fit it, how to not trow proportions out of the window? A linear scaling of X and Y may not fit any headshape, so what are the trick that allow a helm to not lose its personality?

Take care of all those creases in the front, if they fold or crack, your piece will be ruined.

If you find it, I can read and translate it in english. I'm pretty curious about this corazzina too, even just for the sake to go to a guy that I know that own a replica of this piece and use it for XIV° reenactment, and tell that his corazzina is bullshit.
Yes, I'm kind of evil.

It's still an approximation, unless the data stored in the picture contain informations about the focal distance at the time of the picture. Yes, knowing the lens parameters allow to make corrections, but the amount of these correction is different in "macro" or in "landscape" situation, even if the...

Interesting. As some of you know I am an active RC pilot. Newer radio systems have down link telemetry to collect data from the plane in flight. I have several systems in use at this time. One of the sensors I can plug in is a 3 axis G sensor -8 to +8 G's in each axis. Might make a neat winter proj...

Re: Ever use software to superimpose originals over reproduc
What you are looking for is photogrammetry. Today there is some software that can do amazing things, the problem of those software is the price, and the need they have to be fed with a calibrated camera. This , combined with the large number of pictures needed make it worthy only if you can take the...

Maybe it's not the case at all, but.. When we decided to make two harnesses with great bascinets for our foot tournament, we had several candidates , but just two armours, so we made the armours with hybrid measurements, one for the thinner fighters, and one for the larger ones. Knowing in advance t...

Well, the first thing that comes in mind is the first guy that tried to attach a lance rest to a breastplate. That must have been a game changer, because in a short while, everyone adopted it. Much better than the guy who invented weapon chains, he probably strangled himself or spend his time in jai...

Re: Hermann Historica Helmet, Real or Fake?
Sean, I would not dismiss the hammer marks, they are indeed helpful. Despite the period in which the helm was made, it was made of steel , a hammer, and fire. They teach a way to work, probably not the only one, maybe not the "right" one, maybe not even the "best" one, but it's still a method that c...

the tongue biting was in reference to the italian BOTN team armour overall quality.

The problem with the brig is that torso plate are too flat, and that those nails are a bit big, and I fear the will make a scissor effect when they touch with the uppermost plate.

As I said many times here, an old (don't know how old) recipe for a black paint, involve sulphur and turpentine. Cennini is an artist, a rapid read of his work, say that almost everything is related to painting. I would bind the s/p/b/m characteristic to the weapon more than to the armour, otherwise it would mean that the penetration capability of a heavy crossbow and of a simple bow are the same. Because, on a damage level, two shaft of wood that pierce your body, deliver mostly the same damage, but heavie...
