your swords are going to last much longer than a more experienced fighters because you just won't be throwing that many quality blows. That makes a difference. An absolutely valid and true point. The better fighters almost ALWAYS burn through rattan than those of us less skilled, regardless of acti...

my point being that a recognizable percentage feel strongly enough to say they hate it. the results speak for themself and i have attempted to skew nothing. logan Your Grace, You are correct. There is a recognizable percetage who feel stringly enough to say "I hate it". As I type this 30% of the re...

In all honesty, surf around the net some and if you can find arrows ready to go for less than $50 let us all know where! Also, my price is including shippi...

barely half is hardly a high percentage. unless, of course, you mean that you expected a lower number. i think it speaks volumes that almost half claim to hate it. even in such an unscientific poll. regards logan Um.... Bareley half is not good enough for people that like it? but almost half (which...

Matthias Fledermus of the outlands has heard the following stereotypes: Caidians are foppish dandys - my eval, false. They are capable fighters who also like to look nice. Nobody in Ansteroa fights with anything but a 3 foot by 4 foot barn door sheild - my eval... unknown, only met 2 ansteorans in p...

A lot of it depends on how you prep them, and how you fight. I've seen brand new sticks not last a day. Course... 1 layer of duct tape (nothing else) on a scrawny little whippy fast stick, held by a hot agressive fighter. My lazy but with my 2*4 clubs wrapped in spiraled strapping tape, last forever...

Question usually boils down to "Relative to what?" Some scholars, professional or amateur, degreed or not, are only proficient in a narrow range. You might know all there is to know about pre-Columbian Brazil, but do you know anything about the Polynesians of the same period? Maybe--maybe no. Maybe...

If you have a whitney punch or similar you can nibble a 1/4 inch radius out of the corner, then feather it out with a file or sander. Use the sharp corner you have as a center point for the punch. Or, just feather it into a radius with a file/sander/whatever. You'll loose a little bit that way, but...

The black metal stuff that they wrap crates up in. Works ok. I have not had much luck with it. Not stiff enough for my tastes. May just be the banding I had. This is actualy getting harder to find as everyone switches to nylon. I use monster bandsaw blades from the scrap yard. These need a little co...

I would say that it needs more dishing still. Really you want them to be pretty deep. If you use a round impression in your stump this will tend to want to make it too tight to fit on your arm. I use an oblong impression, so that I get more curve from top to bottom than left to right. I personaly li...

Karl Helweg made a reference to a source I did not have/was not familiar with. So I asked for a scan, and he asked me to post it here as well, to provide ideas for the rest of you. As you can see, the center burgonet has a bargrill that is not quite, but almost SCA legal. Double the number of bars, ...

Sweet cardboard calipers Hal! That's way cool! And you're right. The brow measuremnet you need to make a helmet absolutely. But having the front to back measurements makes it LOTS easier. Simple geometry tells us that when figurng a head size if we want to have 1/2 inch all around (that's 1/2 inch o...

Re: Hmmm
mattmaus Not a bad sujestion, but it seem like gold plating fruit, it will still rot and stink. Possibly... You say yourself you use a 2 part pattern. I'm picturing 2 halves here (left and right). You probably, after making 3 or 4, have the pattern down pretty well. Assume that someone like me gets...

WD-40 sux for armour unless your wiping off duct tape smears. It's really not great for preventiing rust. I use cheapo turtle wax car wax to keep the rust down. I'll second that. In regards to how frequently to apply it... my helmet's been in my armor bag for better than 6 months. was waxed 2 pract...

That should do you pretty well Hal... depending on what you have you may want to enlarge the center one a bit (WIDTH not LENGTH). Usualy when I get stuck like you did, I start a gap in the back with a thin cutoff wheel. Close it up. If I like it, it gets welded shut. If not, cut the width of the whe...

Ok... heres how I make mine. Start with Craig Nadlers pattern for his close helm. Use the top and back from there. You'll also need one of the brow bands from his visors. Both need a little tweaking for this, but they're a good base. It's in the pattern archive. From that I modified the bevor to sui...

You do very nice peircing and rolling. For the record.... I cheated like mad. Particularly on the first one. The lower edge of the neck lames are not rolled, but rather have a 1/8th inch bar welded on the very edge, wled ground off and roped from there. Same for the roping around the eyes. I did th...

Veltin, I appreciate your help on this very much so. Footwear always being something of an issue. To clarify exactly what I'm seeing here.
