Re: Is there a gas saver for propane forge?

Mine has a ball valve on the gas line.

If I get the box up to heat, and the firebrick starts to glow, most of the time I can shut it off and come back to it 5 minutes later or so and the residual heat is enough to relight the burners when I open that up.

With new and improved Schnoz-Guard technology. I think "Bretache" is the word I'm looking for, but that might be the methamphetamines talking again. In a breif moment of lucidity I realized that the nasal of this style is probably way too early for a skull this late. Then I went back to do...

Alum tawing is an ancient technology used from pre-history to the present And for the sake of my own curiosity, and in the interest of clarity... I'm working with the notion that "Alum" means just that (the stuff in Tom and Jerry cartoons that makes them pucker up real good) as opposed to...

Interesting information Maelgwyn. Do you know how the alum tawed stuff compares to modern leathers in terms of stiffness and texture? I'd picked out the chrome tanned because 1> it's cheaper than the veg tan and 2> I like it better for some things, it's more supple and 'floppy'. Veg tan is sometimes...

Suck.

He's a good dude. I never bought his stuff on account of I like to make my own, but when he had something that he didn't want/couldn't make/whatever he sent someone my way with the project. I'd bet he did that for other guys too.

Re: Teasing like a rich widower's attention starved daughter

so I had this idea... I could dye the edges black, and then use my little seam gouger tool to cut a border around the dags, but it didn't cut deep enough to get the grey middle bit real bright. So then I thought I could do that and paint it. But I don't really have any good paint. So then I thought ...

The consensus seems to be that the edges need colored. I shall experiment and see what works.

Helemt forthcoming. Possibly progress shots tonight.

Gauntlets are in 3rd generation prototype stage and giving me fits, so likely won't be included.

Bad me, no references here... I have seen some 14th c. brasses/effigies with laces on the front of the cop, but they appeared to be to secure the rondel. 15th c. German elbows were laced in the front, but a 100 year later example isn't any better than guesswork as any kind of "correctness"...

Tracking with USPS kinda sucks. As stated, usually it doesn't give you anything until after the package is delivered. I got the "no information available" stuff for like 2 months AFTER the stuff had got where it was going once. But... Much like insuring a package, it covers my ass a bit, s...

For trimming stuff after the fact... My $10 harbor freight 3" air cut off tool has been worth the price I paid several times over. But it does require a compressor. Straight cuts are very easy, and you can get really curved cuts with it if you approach it more as score & snap like you might...

You might try Pittbull. I don't know that he's done a lance rest, but he was selling add on stop ribs for a while. Some of his projects have given me the notion that he likes taking on projects like this to push his own skills into new areas, so he might take it on.
