Saltwater etching + welds?

I have this cool PDF I got detailing the saltwater/battery charger method of etching. I'm skimming it, and I'm thinking, and I'm scheming... Has anyone tried etching a welded piece with this? Has anyone tried etching over a weld (assume a butt weld, ground flush on the 'show' side)? If so... what ca...

I've had good luck with what Mr. Madd Matt said. Trick to that is that you need your burrs/washers to be real snug on the shank of the rivet. I don't clean up the clipped rivet at all after trimming it. The corners left from the bolt cutters or whatever make really good little ears that I start peen...

Matt when you buy barstock that's small enough (like 1/4") bring bolt cutters with you and then if they want to charge you to cut it do it yourself. I'd love to... but they won't let me... liability.... I'm gonna sue them when I impale myself. They just know it. That's why I'm there. Not to bu...

A 4x8 sheet is probably going to cost you less then the 4x4. Generally about $70-80 for a 4x8. You can get two full suits of armour out of one. I just picked up a sheet of 14g, cost me $95, and that's with a $10 shear fee to whack it in half (fits the truck better that way) so the steel was really ...

but a 48X48 sheet is worth 4 24x24 sheets, not 2.

I am an old feeble minded fool, and as armoring goes, just a tinker or a hack, so my advice may not be worth much... So they say the cuff isn't flared enough... and you say that you have plenty of motion. Well... generaly I think lots of cuffs geared for SCA use are more flared than they need to be....

I was feeling fairly sane today and headed out to the garage to finish up the salet. Then this scrawny assed grasshopper showed up and distracted me with his project. No.. I was checking out the heavy duty welding table and big ball. I'm pretty sure they're both MilSpec. The ball is a genuine cannon ball. My dad found it for me. I ain't made a helmet that I didn't use that ball somewhere on it. It has armor making value, and sentimental value. We lived in a litt...

Re: nice

Depends on what kind of padding you like. But with a 22.5, you would be swimming in it. Yes, this would be for a big noggin, about 24.5 to 25.5 It would be huge for 22.5" head, but I don't think it would go much past 24. Some of the easiest advice I ever got on sizing a helmet. Add 5" to ...
