I bet if you call the original shop back and ask them for the price on a full sheet it's a lot less than $10/SF. Like Clang said, they're cutting a full sheet to your purpose. They're charging you a cut fee, which is typical. Runs me about $10 a cut at my shop. If the lady behind the counter is in a...

In regard to Ashcraft Baker. This is the first I've heard of them being ill-fitting. I've always heard they're are very durable and ugly. Can others confirm or deny that they're ill-fitting? They run round. Perfectly round. Heads are not. Best case scenario someone has a fairly round head, less ova...

They are a decent tool at a decent price. By most accounts it appears that they have been working to fix some of the issues that plauged earlier models. It has been common to hear that they really don't need as much fiddling with to get them working. I've had 2 sets of blades on mine, and found them...

Re: Raising an hourglass cuff - progress
Any constructive criticism welcome, along with general opinions, suggestions and the like. Looks cool as hell. Nicely done. In the last picture the metacarpal section you have laid out looks a bit long proportionaly. I'm not there, I can't see it fit on you (or whoever it's for). But it looks long....

Probably stupid anvil question...
But someone may have tried it, and help me overcome some of the possible pitfalls. I have a nice anvil. She's my mistress. I love her more than the wife, but not more than the kids. I also have a pair of harbor freight 55 lb anvils. One of them sits on the bench and gets used mostly for a welding cl...

Very very nice... the only thing I would suggest for future SCA builds is to watch how far the grill comes away from the chin area. The way that helm looks in those pictures I could easily get a stick up under the chin. As it stands I don't think this helm would be passed by a marshal. Which would ...

I've been looking through pictures of similar helms and I don't even see a rivet for a chinstrap on a lot of them. I've been going the 'extra mile' on my recent work and putting in mounts for chinstraps. On helmets with rivets as part of the design, I just use one of those rivets. On things like ba...

K is this helm usable for heavy? If not could one be made like this for heavy. Helm is freeeeeeeking AWESOME want want want. Yes. Yes. But not by me. Not any time soon anyway. Me too. I knew it was one of those projects that gets done faster if you actually *start* it, rather than sitting around thinking about it... It's been my experience with chisel graving that once I get over the hump of actualy doing the work rather than looking at it that it goes really fast. The down side...

My opinion may not count for a lot because I don't wear glasses. I do wear some pretty beefy nerdy looking Drew Cary style saftey specs in the shop, and when fitting stuff for glasses, I use them as a reference. One of my own insights into fitting a helmet with glasses that I think gets mostly overl...

Re: hand forged items
little experience with shipping and such. Assuming that you are in the US. The smaller forks and spoons look like they would fit in the small priority mail flat rate box. The boxes are free at the post office. They are cool, because you always know what it's going to cost to send them. For the most...

If it's not a trade secret, what is your hardening technique?
More to the point...
Are you using a process that actually hardens the leather? or do you use a wax/resin impregnation technique?
