Just out of curisoity what kingdom in this new SEM from? Outlands. He's actually local to me. He is smart and reasonable. I've known him since I started in the SCA. I would second Sir Brand; unless you have talked to Duke Hrothgar about what this really means I would not pillory him. -- Charles I w...

It is a nasal. Early bascients often had nasals that attached to the aventail. They then could be pulled up and attached to the helm to provide a minimum of facial protection when the great helm was not worn.

Can you tell me more on this Effigy?

http://www.myarmoury.com/images/features/pic_spot_basc14.jpg This is an effigy of Kaiser Günther of Schwarzburg 1349. I am curious about the arm & leg defenses. They appear to be splinted but the splints seem to be only on the outside with some kind of studs between them. Or are they the rivets ...

I use cold gun blueing, You can do it when the helm is compelted. Heck you can do it in your kitchen. It is bascily a controlled surface rust. You can get everything at walmart or any sporting goods store. It holds up ok but will need occational touch up.

I'd by a hundskull or perhaps a klapvisor bascient from SOFC and then buy a bar grill if you decide you need it from ironmonger you should then be able to fit the bargrill to the bascient. What I would be looking to discourage is "sport fighting" I realize neck protection is required by the rules. What is sad though is spun top helms, dog coller gorgets and kidney belts worn with street hockey gear. Yes it is much better concealed but even then you look like some guy with no armour. P...

And woe to those who would wear a gorget instead of a mail drape ...as they would have no value in protection. Huh? I live in a humid area. I never add water to the shield. I just spread it on REALLY thin and clamp in a press. I use Brandr's press its a fairly simple of a frame made of 2x4's that are curves on the edges and a curved 2x4 in the center. That 2x4 is on 2 long bolts you tighten the bolts and it puts ...

Armour as worn weapon as carried?

I am thinking it may at one point be fun to do a tourney wear there is advanage to be gained by armor, where shields are useless after so many strikes, and where a polaxe is more likely to defeat armor or a shield than a broad sword. Padded cloth should be greater than bare skin and leather & maile ...

This is my method: 2 pieces of 1/4 birch glued together with gorrilla glue. Put in the press and let dry over night. The next morning cut it out.
