Two years ago when I was in Greece I saw several beds that were quite similar to the ones Peder has shown. A couple of these had leather or rope straps and the others originally had them but the straps had been replaced by wire when the originals wore out. These type of beds are used today as guest ...

Kindr, When you put the piece on the anvil, how do you know where the edge of the anvil is? If you line the edge of your piece up with the line on the anvil then you know the edge of the anvil is where the line you put on your piece is. Then you just strike slightly forward of the line on your piece...

Patrick, I follow up to pic 21. To go from pic 21 to 22, what stake/technique are you using? And, do I understand correctly that you are sharpening up the point on the front of the roll by striking the top of the roll with a flat faced hammer while the bottom face of the roll is supported on the anv...

Insane; The evidence for armour made purely out of leather for use on the battlefield is somewhat sketchy. However, leather as a part of other defences is well documented. For example in Ffoulkes there is a quotation from a 15th century ordinance stating that covering a jack with a stag skin was an ...

I like that video. It shows how quick things go if you have good hammer control. If you descide to video shapping the elbow would you include some footage of curling the tendon guard? I always have trouble with getting that part to go smoothly as the guard either won't curl enough or the V-channel w...

In Stepping Through Time Goubitz (sp?) mentions one find of hobnail shoes that are likely medieval out of thousands of shoes examined. The shoes were specialist equipment for miners. Other than that there are surviving ice cramp-ons. But again those are for ice, not mud. Pictorially there are a few ...

I was finally able to access the photos. I like the hat very much. If I could change one thing the actual helmets are taller. Here is a photo of a similar one in athens. If you crawl up the address for the photo there is a pic of every Chalcis armor item on display. http://home.armourarchive.org/members/l ... CT0085.JPG

Jiri, Yes, there is a reason. A propane burner that relies on venturi effect to draw air into the propane before igniting it. For the venturi effect to work the burner needs to have the propane moving at a high velocity. If you put the burner on the bottom and place the work on top of it the burner ...

The propane burner Eric Thing uses does indeed have air input. There are a variety of different models but all use a venturi effect to suck air into the propane stream through an opening in the burner located in the back or side. There is a site by Ron Reil (sp?) that describes how to make them. I m...
