Check out the Barber and Barker book of tournaments. They have reproduced illustrations of the tournament armor from Rene's book including the ventilated brestplate, the hardened leather arms, special tournament helms and splinted arms. The other thing that is important is that as Chef pointed out t...

Its been a while since I read the Beeston Castle Jack of Plates article by Ian Eaves but I am pretty sure he refers to this piece as 15th cent. In any case, as you suspected it has wrongly been displayed with earlier pieces of armor.

Chef has got it about right. I checked articles/books by Blair, Grancsay, and Bocia last night and the closest thing you are going to find are some of the bascinets with barbute like features and some helms that have more in common with great helms but have corinthian style face openings as shown in...

The evidence for the Hever garment being an arming doublet is by no means conclusive. Even if it is an arming doublet you will still need art to figure out which styling details are correct for your country and date. However, if it is not an arming doublet then it appears to me that like a lot of 15...

There are several doublet patterns in the book referenced. Iam refering to the Hever castle garment. It is smooth silk, has small buttons and has arming points. It is quite unlike the one from the Met which having seen, I agree could not possibly be worn under armour. Please take a secnd look at the...

What is the mesh like material on the fighter to the right? It looks like some kind of silver fishingnet. And, is that duct tape holding on those greaves? That site is quite a chuckle.

Outstanding idea for an outdoor project. Will it be life size? Also, please note that both copper and bronze work harden rapidly. Frequent anealing will likely bee needed for deeper shapes.

Very nice! I'm sure it will make a lovely addition to your display. One thing to consider, you may have reached the limit of what is possible without hot work (or at least annealing). I think you should consider adding hot techniques to your next project. Some areas such as the ankle on the greaves ...

Where did you see this pattern and how to? I was only aware of a polyen how to.

If we can trust art, barbutes were normally worn with lighter armor such as the padded armors shown in the pic below. For plate armor, there are a great many works showing armets in use and just a couple showing barbutes.

Strongly agree with Doug above. The polish adds a lot to the beauty of the pieces. Would it be possible to see a pic of the breast and back looking down from above the neck opening as well? The extent of the bulge of the pieces in relation to the neck opening is difficult to see in museum pieces/pics.
