Oh, I'm not running to "get away" but rather to maintain my preferred range. So I'm not worried about him catching me, but rather keeping him at the longer range. Bad idea? The thing is, you aren't keeping him at range. He's catching up and getting where he wants to be, and you're *not* making him ...

Ok, stories it is. I don't take pictures of them. About 3 months ago I was having dinner with a Duke that shall remain nameless. We were discussing activity level and what not. I made the mistake of mentioning I was only going to get older and slower. Well, he reminded me that he was 5 years my sen...

On a really good day, I can sometimes tell where the sword is by watching my opponent's overall body language. Train to do this ... watching weapons as opposed to your opponent is a good way to get killed. What if he pulls a second weapon or pokes you in the eyes with his off hand ? If you practice...

No pictures, no really specific stories about bruises. I can say that Fight Practice when I started was on Thursday night and Dance Practice was on Tuesday and I knew Fight PRactice had gone well when I was able to dance on Tuesday. I also went through a period where you could hit my naked thigh wit...

I know little about medieval coopery, so i cant comment on authenticity. I will comment because this is an issue we have in our (Grey's) camp. Those barrels look nice but of coarse are made with an American wood that looks nothing like a European wood. Also as I understand it a medieval barrel woul...

I recently watched Terry Jones's Crusades, nothing about the gear was new. I was more interested in the political and religious view, until I realised some of the Crusaders actuly walked thousands of miles in little more than bedroom slippers. What do we know about peoples feet holding up to the ro...

Re: Poor new fighter attitudes!
"Time to get my ass kicked", "time to die", even "I just enjoy having fun because I know I'll never be a good fighter". In my 11 years of fighting, I have heard a lot of variations on these comments, and they bug me. Even as a new fighter, I was always jokingly telling my teachers "ready to die?". ...

Congratulations to the royalists and their lackeys on their victory, which was thorough and complete. Close. I'm looking for just the pieces of horn (or fake horn) pannels so I can complete another lantern. Have you thought about making them yourself? It is fairly simple. I think locating the horn would be the hard part. Just take the horn and steam it (put in big pot of boiling water ABOVE the wat...

Good plan! They will turn brown with released tannins. Also good to have a stunt towel as well to place under your feet if you will have wet leather soles on light colored carpet.

I have been near completion on a new armor similar to the Metropolitan Museum's velvet piece. I am having trouble at the natural waist. Yes, Your grace, you are absolutely correct, but it also depends on how big the shield is, and the ability of the person to use it. I see lots of comments relevant to the melee, but how about in a more "formal" setting, for example the West's Crown Tournament tomorrow.
