its too often used as a crutch and too often leads to sloppy fighting. crown should be a showcase of skill and while a tiny percentage of guys throw skillful thrusts the majority do not. now those are my own opinions but i would not be surprised if hrh feels any different. he has disallowed them in ...

my money is on thrusting not being allowed for crown. regards logan Yeah, Logan has it right. Since he was the one who taught me the move, I do it the same way. It's not a feint, and it's not a thrust. It's definitely not, in my opinion, a blatant safety hazard. Given the way this is done I can't im...

yeah i can see that being read like a thrust at the shield. i just assumed he was talking about how i do it which is to place the tip on the shield, a little shove to displace, then throw the shot. i dont strike the shield, only push it. i think the rules are pretty clear that thrusting, even at the...

yes, according to this particularly silly rule. there is nothing dangerous about a feint like that. at least no more dangerous than throwing your hilt forward, like a jab, to elicit a reaction from your opponent. regards logan IV. THE USE OF WEAPONS AND SHIELDS A. Weapons shall be used in accordance...

you need to go to an ortho, not a general. an ortho can properly diagnois what is causing the pain. ie is it simply soft tissue damage? if so naproxen and rest is probably the best path. but if its something else (stress fracture, debris/foriegn body, etc) naproxen wont do much to solve the problem....

but thats what im talking about. prven treatments that actually address issues. sure, a lot of proven medical treatments (most) have some basis or beginings in non-traditional medthods. once those have been tried and tested and refined its all good. having a guy heat up a glass gobe and placing it o...

i would strongly recommend sticking with real medicine and real science and staying away from things like chiropractics. they do as much good as acupuncturists, banki, rakki, prayer, buhang, and all other types of non-science, non-medical types of so called treatment. if you are in pain see a real d...

man, i gotta get out more. im honestly having a hard time visualizing these blatant horrors. maybe some has some video for me. ive seen a scant one or two fights in 18+ years in atlantia that might come close to what ive read suggesting there is a problem. heck i was in a crown final that caused a h...

yeah the wording causes some folks to support only the hardest blows should count. while they may be 100% right (and i think they may be) i dont believe that is really what we are doing. but it is what the wording suggests. i use the wording to argu against the wrist flicking and tap thrusting argum...

Re: harder than you want...
really? how sure are you of that? i doubt, with all sincerity, that 99% of sca guys could throw a head shot with rattan to a bare head and stop a fight. ive been hit in the head with a stickball bat (a few times during the incident) and once with a wooden baseball bat (walked into it accidently). bo...

Re: SCA legality question on some besegews.
to answer you question directly, no.... nobody can point out a rule that would disallow them. the rules, of course, are available for your review at: www.sca.org under the earl marshala tab. then, you ca go the m although our website is really not laid out well. somewhere there is a link to the trim...

the sword never tuched him? why would he call it good? in a crown finals i was fighting duke havorc. he threw a thrust from about hip level as i threw a high wrap which he ducked. we were forced to fight dual weapon. anyway, his sword went into my helm right by my jaw and stopped under my earlobe. w...

golfers elbow is one possibility. another, much more severe, possibility is that you have injured your ulnar collateral ligament. this ligament attaches to that knob and runs up at an angle to your ulnar bone. you need to see an ortho and possibly have an mri. having just had ulnar collateral ligame...

marshals call flat shots flat. it has nothing to do with waiting to see if the fighter throwing the blow calls it or not. the marshals should be trained enough to see the blows land, the hand position, the angle the blow is thrown, etc to be able to make the call. sadly most marshals are simply out ...
