Sounds great. Can I bring anything? Plastic amour perhaps oh wait...Can I come? Years ago at Pennsic, I observed a young women in a nice 15th C rig. A Complete suit of plate. For the SCA, it was well made, cap-a-pie. I do not remember to exact style of helmet but a marshal was cranking her head way ...

I have been using kydex for 25 years. Your 1/8" choice is fine. It is a bit over kill to use 3/16". In fact I normally use .090 for arms and legs. May I suggest you do not glue a leather or fabric cover over you plastic. If it is a breastplate you want to cover, make an arming coat. This w...

Nice to see these being used. If I may offer my two cents. The breast plates should overlap. If you experiment, you can get the corners of the leather to come together nicer on the back side. This will keep them from tearing over time. You could get a more authentic look by using different rivets. (...

I put flap in quotes to refer to the section of mail attached to the face opening of the bascinet. Not an actual flap.
your diagram is upside down. The mail is narrower at the top than the bottom. (Top being near your nose.)

No, I'm referring to an aventail on a bascinet. Not a coif. I'm sorry you feel your blood pressure rise. I just do not agree with your logic. I do not agree that an armourer of the period would prefer to leave more links in an Camail/ aventail and lace them up with a leather thong, than using a corr...

But it's a hell of a lot easier, and you can't screw it up. I've often taken out too many links when I shouldn't have. I'm sure it was done sometime by someone. I imagine there were well-made camails that were shaped as you describe, and munitions-grade ones with lacing. How can it be "cheatin...

I don't think that is the correct solution. If you look at effigies of the period, the aventail has a bit of a "corner" to it on the face opening and is flat across the face. In order to achieve this you must remove links at the top of the face opening. If you visualize the piece of mail i...

Looking for Kastenbrust armor

I think Mac may have finally convinced me into having him make me a Kastenbrust armor. I'm looking for images. I have some, but they are often not identified as such and therefore difficult to search for. Any sources?

The greater the difference between the inner circumference and an outer circumference gives you the strength to keep a ring stiff and helps keep it from opening. The thickness, in the other direction, adds only a marginal amount of strength. So by eliminating the thickness you eliminate a great deal...

Durasteel, many thanks for the clarification. In short, no. you are not making the metal thinner. You are compressing it. If you had a tube made from clay, and you squeeze it, it gets smaller and the material gets thicker because you are compressing it. Yes, that's the approach you're using, which ...
