Here is a pair I made with wet formed leather, covered with a layer of garment leather and spring steel splints. The studs are pewter. One piece with buckles in the back.

Here are some shots of the ones I made. I used a suspension liner made from silk, (red) and linen (tan) sewn to the leather band riveted onto the inner rim of the helmet. The things from "300" are comic book styled pieces.
We did pieces for the producers, so they could get the idea sold to the studio, on a deal we would make the film armour, then we got side stepped by the producers and it was made in Canada.
