Oh yeah, Here is a cool idea Rhys had. A leather bag for your mail shirt. I made 3 of these for our trip and they worked great. I treated my bag with "Hubbards shoe grease" and I have almost zero rust on my shirt. [img]http://globaleffects.com/Temp/b...

To whoever was looking for hidden gauntlets?

Somewhere here I read a post about someone looking for a way to make early period gauntlets. I can’t find it. So, here is what I was going to post. This is what I made for a recent trip to Europe to fight with the wild Polish Viking groups. http://globaleffects.com/Temp/gauntlet68.jpg Okay, here i...

Well…that is the story of The Ugo’s first spring steel project. I hope it is a lesson to not let difficulty get you down, and not lose hope. Y'know, the take away lesson I got from this is, "Beware of working for people who can't be bothered to mark their steel." I mark my steel. The lesson I t...

Were progressive dies used, or all in one shot?

I used an aluminum plate with three holes and with a little wax pulled them through progressively.

Yes very nice helms. The top one screams horse tail plume. I like Coppergate helms very well too. How did you do the brass edging? Did you grind a special chisel for the detail around the brass back band? What did you hammer into? The back side support anvil thingy... Lead? Sorry for all the questi...

Nice work. I love the snake heads. Really nice, even without any direct supervision. I told Greg, that I gave you a DVD with some of our "direct supervision" recoreded on it, so that is how you made such a nice piece without us. BTW...... Armour just isn't armour without a few dents in it. Give me a musket ball dent any day. Until then, it is art, not armour. David (feeling controversial today) Translation: A car just isn't a car without a few dents in it. Give me a drive by shooting dent any day. Until then, it is art, not a car.

Yes, sliding rivets allow the lower cannon to rotate about 30 degrees.
In later periods they generally leave enough room to allow the wrist to rotate inside the cannon. Also in later periods, lower cannons are mostly round, not oval like the 14th C. cannons.

Sir Gaston, does the "1380" Russian book have lots of illustrations like the one shown on the cover and example page?
