There is no corrazina pattern in the pattern archive here, and I am a primarily a fighter who does his own armor, rather than an armorer that fights. The corrazina looks like the curves are particularly easy to get wrong. I'm currently working on one that will fit me. Fortunately I'm a tall skiny g...

I make them. Hate to say this: as much as I admire your work, Gaston, the shield boss is not quite of the Vendel Period. The decoration, of course, is Salin's Style II. For the boss, you might take a good look at A.N. Jorgensen's book "Waffen und Graber." PM your snail-mail address, and I'll send y...

I believe what you are refering to is called a Haute piece. These do not go past your ear, they are a front 45 degree piece only. They also are not designed to be used without a helmet and will not give you the wide range of movement you might want. On Mac's web site is a close up of a Maxamillian a...

Thank you. This was a kit that I made to demonstrate that you could make a great looking kit using basic tools. This is all plastic, covered in leather. It uses my globose kit for the body and off the shelf elbows and knees that Master Cadwallan made. I had the strips of brass sheared at the metal s...

have you tried this brother? cause I know personally a lot of people have and it dont fair very well for them...perhaps if you have some insight on how to "fold a centergrip heater" it might be nice to have that shared so we will all have to improve our skillset.. I have fought against them and if ...

Re: Heaume over bascinet
For anyone who's successfully fought in SCA combat in a great helm over visorless bascinet- if such a thing is possible- how did you strap down the heaume to the satisfaction of the marshals? I'm assuming a chinstrap won't work if the bascinet has a camail in the way. Klaus Yes, no problem. Chinstr...

Sir Gaston! Care to tell us more about that mace? It looks intriguing. Specifically, what's the head? Thanks! I made a silicone mold from a real steel mace. (A studded piece of steel pipe on a wood shaft.) I turned the rattan down on my sander and set it into the mold and cast a solid urethane rubb...

The mace is about 14" long and is an effective secondary weapon. Here is one of my favorite shots. http://globaleffects.com/Temp/Groupshothelms.jpg I am also wearing a bascinet cap under the helm. The helm is 16 ga. spring, made by Mac. I made the cap, it is 20ga. mild. Here is the cap. The nasel is...

The term "live steel" to me is a shibboleth by which means a person may identify themselves as someone who has read and incorporated certain books, or indicate that they are a member of the SCA. It is a term which people must be taught, and it was taught me in the SCA. I untrained myself in its use...

I just finished those 2 Vendal helmets and have studied many early period helms in the process. I have not found any reference for something in this style. Yes I agree that the nasal looks very long. Also, look at the interior construction. It looks odd. The rivets with washers for example. Why woul...

Yes it's an SCA thing that I remember quite well from before the SCA existed---live steel refered to sharps, dead steel was rebated. I'm gonna go out on a limb and wonder if it is theater-speak? Akin to "live ammo" and "blanks" or "live gun" and "dummy"? Maeryk Could be...but you can't unload a swo...

We recently had a great deal of fun with a Viking 'grave' that Sir Gaston created. So, posting pictures of the helmet would be very educational. There are many things that could point to it being absolutely modern, others that might point to it being authentic, and some that might leave us unsure. ...

I hear Scadians using it all the time, but don't know if its use is limited to that. Yes, it's an SCA peculiarity: used to describe a real steel sword, something many SCAdians seem to be deathly afraid of. I second John Lundemo of Odin Blades also. Nice work and a good chap. What do SCAdians use to...
