Re: Wheeled Armour Chest

A solid axle like you started with will be much stronger. Now all of your load is on the poor little 1x2, it will never last. Also, if you plan on dragging this over rough ground, the larger the wheels the easier it will be to pull.

Re: Torso Casting as a Patterning Aid

"Fiberglas resin" is almost always Polyester resin. Epoxy resin is usually identified as Epoxy because it is more expensive. Having done this type of thing for so many years, I forget that items may be labeled as "Products" instead of as "Materials". As for FRP or fiber...

Re: Torso Casting as a Patterning Aid

Thixotropic is the word I used. ( m ) I have found with a foam bodycast that it is easy to “chew” up the raw foam while working with the finished casting. So as a skin for the foam, I use Bondo that has been thinned out with polyester resin to allow you to paint a layer in the mold. (about 1/16th to...

Sounds good. Remember to practice on a mellon or something simple. You will use a small amount of material, but you will learn alot and save risking the material you want to use on the body.

It's been said already, but it is worth repeating. Baleen is not ivory. nor is it bone or cartilage or ... Also baleen is grey or black, (at least the piece I had as a kid and all the other pieces I have seen) so I’m not sure how it could be confused with anything other than …baleen. http://www.com...

Re: European Arms and Armour in the Wallace Collection

For other reasons I just bothered Toby about the big one with the digital catalogue. That is the one we should all want. It is a lot more money, but well worth it. As of today he said that they hadn't shipped it yet, they were working out some kinks in how the digital piece was working. He was hopi...

If you want to use a gypsum material (Plaster is one type of gypsum material) I would suggest finding Hydrostone, a good specialized building supply may have it (Not a home depot type of store) With any type of gypsum product, you want to make sure the proper amount of water to gypsum is used in ord...

All of the rule dies I have for cutting leather are made by carefully cutting out the exact shape from good quality plywood (3/8” -1/2”) and then using all the pieces of wood (inside & out) fill the gap left by the saw blade with steel rule blade material. A bead of glue may be needed if you saw...

Some of the folks in these 3 Mayhem threads are coming off as no different or better than Mr. Andrews. Re: New Project - Medieval Trestle style Breakdown Camp Tabl

May I add here, with all this detail of a computer 3d drawing, you have the trestle connection in a way that will not allow for "wedging" the connection tight? Was this your intention? As it is designed, the joint, unless made very precise, will be loosen and allow the table to parallelogr...

That sounds great. There is a thread on the AA with information and tests using hardwood for stamps as well. I understand your point about armour "behaving". I found myself surprised by your critique because there are others in the photos you posted whose armour does not even begin to behave, IMO, compared to the one we're discussing just now. That's why I found it odd. Due to my dogged unwillin...

Re: Surecoat patterns

Well the advantage of the first is; the armour you wear beneath has less impact on the finished garment. It still needs to be properly tailored. The second, in addition to being properly tailored is, it heavily depends on the armour to give you the proper shape. So if you do not have a slim figure o...

Re: SCA Kits that give a good impression

http://forums.armourarchive.org/phpBB3/download/file.php?id=42195 I saw this armour, and I didn't pick it because I was bugged by the shoulders with haute pieces. They seem very "Excalibur" to me. It could be just my over sensitivity to the over use of haute pieces on inappropriate armours.
