It’s nice and clean, I may have picked that for this list if I had seen it, but I'm bugged by the fluorescent green and ill fitting sabatons. The helmet also seems very large. I know these seem nitpicky, but this is part of the first impression.

Of the examples I have seen the ends can be held on with a simple length of copper alloy (brass) rod peened at both ends or a straight rivet through the plate and leather. If I may offer a suggestion as to your tooling, it looks like you have used Tandy style leather crafting tools to stamp you patt...

Re: another interesting find

I looks to be a "dog", used for securing rebar through cement footings. The pieces of rebar protrude through the plywood footing, these dogs "lock" onto the ribs of the rebar to keep the plywood from bowing out under the weight of the concrete. Once it's set, these are spun off t...

If you want it to look correct, what armour do you have or plan to wear? Find an image from one of the effigy libraries and post it. The generic SCA surcoat / tabard is most often not correct looking.

SCA Kits that give a good impression

Daggrim, Your paraphrasing is correct. I have found, people as a whole, will do only what is asked of them. The fighter on the right, in the above photo, is a good example of no one thing being wrong, but the anachronistic combination of all the elements making it an SCAism. Modern Japanese martial arts clothes, plastic "Clam shell" gauntlets (of which there is no such term I am awear of) and SC...

Bayard, I have to disagree here. Why make , in this case a gorget, that is not a copy of anything, instead of a copy of a gorget that existed? If it is not a copy of something that existed then it should be hidden from sight, and it should be made in a way that it doesn't stick out as a "lump&q...

Unless learning the art of heat treating is your goal, I have to say, I can see no reason to do them yourself, even if you want to make many things, as I do. Modern alloys have many advantages if heat treated with modern techniques. Sending them to a vender who knows proper techniques for sheet item...

I would agree with a list, but perhaps it would be more beneficial showing time periods in say 50 or even 100 year blocks and give solutions to the basic SCA required areas of protection. i.e. 1400- types of elbow protection- example, types of knee protection- example. This way some types of hidden ...

Syr Garan, This is not what I was referring too. I see what the SCA looks like, so do many other people and the “Mission statement” of the SCA is why people outside, (and some members) see the SCA as ridicules, because we claim to be something we are not, nor do we try to be. Once again, the problem with long threads is I get the sense people did not read them, in fact I often get this sense from short threads as well.
