Every year I go to Pennsic I buy a Billy and Charlie Laurel leave badge hanger, and use it to dangle my medallion from all war. I know it’s not quite right, but I’m so likely to lose it otherwise, if I don’t make it an important part of what I put on, so I just deal! I'm not about wearing a P...

The Finnish wool has arrived (US customs had it for a month, no issue, just had it for a month!) It is really nice. Brown, gray, black & white. Because it is so nice, and being a very rare type of sheep and my father in law has so much wool, my wife has decided to go all the way and start having...

Derian, Sterling silver may work with a different technique, but with this technique even annealed it was too hard and tore. I can guarantee it works very well with a steel die and pewter backing. We used 0.25 mm thick silver (about 10 mils). A lead backing would work well also (and is what Theophi...

Finnvarthr, If the laser etch is deep enough they could work. The Magnesium etches to 25% to 30% of the material thickness so it is quite deep. Here is a photo of some of the Vendel mag etched plates. These have been used 3 or 4 times and are now .005" thinner as a result. These plates are .075â€

I have around 6 arming coats with mail sleaves (with steel mail)and they don't get that much rust. However, I have on occasion misted them with wd-40. Also, these coats are about 15 years old and have rented out dozens of times. They are not dumped into an arming bag and left. They are hung up to dr...

Arngrim, I firmly believe all or most mail was built on a foundation of some sort. (Cloth, leather). So for mine I made a rough pattern with tape over the boot/ legging I was mounting the mail too. Someone more skilled with mail would build up the mail based on the pattern, I however chose to use a ...

Hugo, It is hard to see but the fingers have been broken off. At least one, but I think two plates are missing. I have an original copy of Stothards and it is clear the fingers had been broken off. I have a number of pair of tall 17th C. dress or civilian boots (as the paintings above depict). If the leather upper is a well fit tube of medium weight leather, they stay up fine, without any stiffening. I also believe the term "Jack Boot" refers to a different sort of boot. I was always...

When I look at the placement of the visor pivot point, it seems to be much lower on the helmet than any of our drawings. Mr. Hedgecock's seems to be the closest to that of the painting, riding almost on top of where the possible bevor pivot point would be. As low as it is in Jeff's drawing, it woul...

Mac, I don't think I would abandon the point all together. If you look at the reflection (in the original painting) coming down the facing surface of the skull it does give the impression of a slightly pointed skull. I think the increased contrast may be exaggerating the dome effect, the reflection ...

A utility knife can be used to score the plastic and then you can snap it on the score line. 3/16 is a bit thick for this, but it can be done. Make a cut with the knife (about a 1/16th deep) and then fold the material in the opposite direction of your cut and the ABS will snap on that cut line. You ...
