I think that's fantastic, and really respect the groups who do that. But there are just as many people who think: a) Somehow our non-profit status requires that we educate the general public, not people who walk through the doors of an event or meeting b) You are teh evol for enforcing a higher sta...

Wow, some very nice stuff. Although that glass, I don't know... I worked with a guy at Pennsic and his work seemed very skilled. He made this Roman ring beaker that was pretty cool... His name was Alexander. Nice work.

While I agree that he's nigh uniquely qualified to do it, ya probably ought have PM'd Mac before suggesting such, publicly. Yes, I thought of that, however Mac and I have discussed this idea at length and I felt he didn't think himself deserving of such a position. I was hoping to get encouragement...

It takes no more effort to be polite than it does to act like a jerk. Anyone is just as capable of stating their feelings with respect as they are of being a total ass. Magnus, I have never posted the picture of these shoes of mine. I do not have them on my portfolio page because they are so bad. I do not own my own leather business, and if I did, I would most certainly not have posted photos of them. I would think a guy who owns his own leather business and who’...

Based on what? The craftsmanship equals or surpasses what a period piece would've/could've had. It may not be your cup of tea, but there is at least skill in what was presented, and that was the coolest you could be? I am sorry you think period shoes (anything) would have "craftsmanship" ...

Ahhh Kids these days...The problem you kids have is the social graces today. They have just gone to hell. I never had a NEED to tie my mug to my belt, for the hosts of the parties I was invited to, always kept you mug full. Kinda silly trying to tie a full mug to your belt.

An 8th c painting from where? Do you honestly think an 8th c painting from *anywhere* justifies using them with a Landsknecht costume for example? A Viking? Some men's shirts of the Renaissance do fasten with ties, or points. So do women's smocks/shifts. They're not laced like a Renfaire corset, though, if that's what you mean. I agree that "sharp" and "blunt" would be more accurate in talking about steel weapons than "live ste...

You also might want to take a look at Charles Ashdown's take on "banded mail." He perpetuated the, "chain-mail," & "plate-mail" nomenclature, and, yep, he was wrong-headed in this. Mord. Yes, Merrick and Ashdown conjectured that banded mail was rings sewn down to a...

Banded mail refers to mail with some type of cording woven through the mail. There are examples of this in Asian and Middle Eastern mail of the 18th and 19th centuries.
