I don't usually do "Yeah, me too" posts. But... See Ewan's responses. He has posted exactly what I would have responded to your question with. Almost as if we have a similar background or outlook on fighting or something. I just had to chime in so I didn't ignore your questions. Hrogn Go figure. Wo...

I made one just like it and the local marshall bounced it since it didn't give 1/2" over the face of the mace. So check on your local interpretation of the mace. My principality Marshall (Hi Hrogn!) Thought it was ok but according the letter of the rules it doesn't pass in Avacal. I don't get it. H...

In my opinion Odo, there shouldn't be a difference. At least not with this mace head. It is really quite light not adding much to the tip of the hadt. But, the RULES say you must have 1/2" of give.

And rules iz rules.

Mine was held on by friction alone. (And I had already tool dipped the head and stained the shaft, before getting it inspected...too much work to fix.) The simplest solution is to remove a bunch of rattan behind the mace head, apple the thin layer of mouse pad (Basically putting the diameter of the ...

THats exactly what I was worried about, I really didn't think it had enough give to pass by the letter of the rules in the ABC but thought that it may have a chance to be passed by a marshal. I am sorry, but am I reading this right? Are you saying that you don't think that mace will pass inspection...

FWIW HE Sior Murchad said, "HE" hod no problem fighting me with one, but they don't pass as far as he was concerned. Now Sir Gunther could get them to compress 1/2"........but he is a former national level shotputter. Does that count? I believe HG Gaston built one and had little troble locally.....

Mac, What pecentage of the A&S population are good enough to be Kingdom chmapions? Or Laurels? What pecentage of the Rapier world are good enough to be Dons? Hee Hee!

I've fought your squire, Sir. May I suggest an additonal name for your list?

Sir Thorin of An Tir would be a great lesson for your squire. He was over 50 when he won his last crown and is of a similar size your Squire.

An Tir is the big Kingdom that does not target arms. When the big thread ran a couple of months ago it was about An Tir as they have a passage in their fighting laws that to the effect says targeting the arm in chivalrous. When I first moved to the midlands of the middle kingdom from the East Kingdom I was appalled by how soft the locals played. Get thee over to:
http://www.anvilfire.com/iForge/index.htm
Go to demo #86 - Scrapers.

I don;t think this is what you are wanting to try. Have you ever tried an aggressive file, like an axe file or a good bastard file? They will take far more metal off, faster. Then go to the scraper for final smoothing.

Luck.

As for chin straps.. mm, yeah. I use 'em, but I don't know that I would recommend to anyone else the minimal version I am comfortable using - a leather cup held in place by a couple of lengths of leather thong. the top edge of your shield is too flat, so you are not utilizing your corners as natural passive "flat snap" blockers. If you pull your front corner a little higher and tighter to your face- think nose-ish level- and then use 2-3 inch side to side blocking motions you should be able to pick up aal...

I had one of Adam's. I fought in it a lot. It was great. Good vision, ventilation etc. You did have to take blows that weren't really good because of the brim though. The cool factor totally out weighed this though.
